About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Occupational Therapist to join the Crisis and Home Based Treatment Team providing opportunity to develop wider skills in the service area. You will deliver recovery focused, evidence based occupational therapy to people experiencing acute mental health crises, working flexibly across community and remote settings to promote stability, independence and reduce hospital admissions. As part of a fast paced multidisciplinary team across Hull and the East Riding, you will manage a specialist caseload, providing expert OT input, support to junior staff and contribute to service development.

You will also be involved in conducting mental health assessments and risk assessments, developing and reviewing care or treatment plans and delivering therapeutic interventions and psycho-education. You will manage caseloads and monitor patient progress, supporting crisis intervention and relapse prevention where required as well as promoting recovery, independence, and well being.

The role offers access to specialist training, opportunities to support practice placements for students and apprentices, and strong career development prospects. You will also be part of a well established OT network with access to professional forums and CPD groups to support your ongoing development.

The service operates 24/7 and there is an expectation that you will work across the 7 day week.

Main duties of the job

Specialist occupational therapy interventions: Deliver evidence-based OT care to individuals in acute mental health crisis across community settings, including service users' homes.

Complete holistic OT assessments using MOHO as the core assessment framework and monitor progress and outcomes through the use of Therapy Outcome Measures (TOMs).

Providing a range of interventions which include sensory based interventions to support emotional regulation and functional engagement.

Supervision and Support: Provide clinical supervision to junior staff, students, and Assistant Practitioners in OT (APOTs), ensuring safe and effective practice.

Service Development and Leadership: Lead on OT input within the team, contribute to service improvement initiatives, and support implementation of Trust and national policies.

Communication and collaboration: Use advanced interpersonal skills to communicate complex information sensitively and effectively with service users, carers, and colleagues.

Training and Education: Plan and deliver specialist training sessions for staff and students, and support professional development across the team.

Clinical Governance and Research: Participate in audits, quality improvement projects, and contribute to research within the OT speciality.

Documentation and I.T skills: Maintain accurate patient records and demonstrate proficiency in digital systems, adhering to confidentiality and data protection standard.

Person Specification

Qualifications and knowledge Essential

Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy Registration with the HCPC Specialist knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice, standardised assessments, and their use in practice Knowledge and understanding of the evidence-based relevant to the clinical area

Desirable

Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications at an advanced level e.g. degree or post graduate level or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area

Experience Essential

Completed preceptorship programme Understanding of caseload management clinical responsibilities

Desirable

Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area

Skills and competencies Essential
