Job summary
To assist the clinical members of the ophthalmology team under their supervision, in providing a high-quality, comprehensive nursing service to all patients and service users accessing the Day unit. Ensuring high standard of patient care is maintained in a safe environment.
Main duties of the job
This is a permanent 37.5hrs/week position. Hours varies from 8am-6pm or 8am-7pm and you will be expected to be flexible to meet the needs of the service. We operate Monday to Friday and full day Saturday per month. You will be working mainly in Theatre but you will have the opportunity to work on the Day Unit upon arrangement.
We are looking for someone who has the willingness to develop new skills and competencies. Also, have good knowledge of IT/Trak computer system.

You will be a part of an existing team of experienced nurses and theatre assistant, who provides excellent care of patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery. Once you have gained experience and skills in this role you will be placed to further develop your expertise when opportunities arise. The team observes kindness, respect and treats all service users in a professional and friendly manner.

Duties includes
- The moving and positioning of patients within the operating department
- Assisting in the provision of a safe environment within the operating department.
- Delivery and distribution of pharmacy items within the operating theatre department
- The storage and disposal of linen and theatre clothing and the cleaning of theatre footwear.
- Providing messenger service within the operating department and day unit.
- To cover on call shifts alongside scrub nurses.
- Such other duties as may be determined by the Theatre Manager.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Education Essential
Minimum 3 x GCSEs at grade A - C / 9 - 4 including a science
Desirable
Relevant education such as Care certificate, NVQ level 2, Heath and Social Care level 2 or 3
Experience, skills and knowledge Essential
Previous care experience within a hospital or community nursing setting Able to communicate effectively with patients and multiple members of the team
