Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a specialty doctor to join our General Surgery team at the Northern Care Alliance, Salford Royal Hospital site. We need an experienced doctor who can provide demonstrable expertise in General Surgery to deliver a high-quality independent service or manage complex cases with reference to a consultant.The post holder will be responsible, under the supervision of the consultant, for the day to day care of elective and emergency patients. You will be expected to play a full part in the relevant departmental rota. The post holder will work and liaise with the colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to ensure an appropriate, professional and timely provision of care to patients.Opportunities to work with a consultant will be provided to ensure on-going requirements for professional development and education. Robust medical revalidation and appraisal systems exist across the Northern Care Alliance, through which you will be allocated an appraiser and undertake an annual appraisal.
Main duties of the job

Indicative Job Plan The post holder will contribute to the rolling 1 in 14 Level 3 rota. This includes on-call day and night shifts including weekend work.
When not on emergency care duties the post-holder shall be offered the opportunity to be trained in elective settings including theatres and clinic. Endoscopy training may be provided depending on training list availability and the post holder's experience as appropriate.

The post holder will be empathetic and sensitive to patients needs and able to explain things clearly - particularly complex or sensitive information, putting the patient first at all times.

Qualifications Essential
Primary medical qualification (e.g. MBChB) Intercollegiate exit exam FRCS (General Surgery) Minimum 6 years postgrad with 2 years in general surgery
Desirable
Attainment or working toward MD in PHD or equivalent Adult life support provider (APLS/PiLS) Evidence of endocrine surgery experience
Professional Registration Essential
Full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid Licence to Practise with the General Medical Council (or demonstrates eligibility to apply for registration and license)
Knowledge, Training & Experience Essential
Relevant specialty clinical knowledge & training as per Royal College of Surgeons Research Skills: - Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of research - Experience of active involvement in Audit (clear description, outcomes & appropriate experience for level of application)
Desirable
Research experience: - publications (e.g. book chapter, book editor, case report - not abstracts or letters) - Presentations (oral or poster) at international, national or regional meetings - not local meetings Management: - Relevant contribution to management within general surgery (rotas, committees etc) Teaching: - Teaching achievement (including attendance at teaching courses, etc)
