About this role

Job summary

This post is for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine and Undergraduate Education at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Emergency Medicine Services at Preston and Chorley are unified under a single Directorate. The successful candidate will be expected to work on both sites.

This post is fixed term for 12 months. The post will be split 60:40 between clinical duties and educational activity. This is a full time post, however applications from candidates seeking a part time post will be considered.

Main duties of the job

Clinical duties will include all those duties normally expected of a Junior Doctor (FY2-ST2 equivalent) in similar sized emergency departments in the United Kingdom and will include:

a) The initial management and care of patients presenting to the Department. It is expected that such work will be carried out to the highest clinical standards at all times and in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various clinical policies of the Service.

b) Arranging follow-up of patients treated in the Department - including the follow-up of any investigations performed and the taking of appropriate action in accordance with the results of these.

c) Transmission of relevant clinical information on patients to other medical, technical and nursing staff either within the Department, within or without the hospital or at any other hospital, regarding patients under care or those referred to other places for further treatment or follow-up.

Educational duties will include supporting and developing the delivery of Medical Education within the Medical Directorate. This will involve liaising with medical specialties to organise a bedside teaching programme to Medical Students from the University of Manchester; Co-facilitating on the Undergraduate Simulation Programme and developing and updating scenarios used in the Undergraduate Simulation Programme.

Qual Essential

Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice MBBS or equivalent

Desirable

Part 1 of MRCP/MRCS or MCEM Certification in ALS/APLS/ ATLS/ETC

Experience Essential

12 months of post graduate experience (equivalent to completion of FY1 year) Ability to initiate appropriate management in common emergencies Must not have been out of clinical practice for longer than 2 years ILS or equivalent course

Desirable

At least 6 months in a substantive NHS post in the UK Wider ability in patient evaluation and a working knowledge on minor illnesses and injuries Personal involvement in audit project Publication/presentation of original research
