Job summary
Applicants are invited to join our excellent Trauma & Orthopaedic and Research Team for a 3 year post within Surgery Division at the Queens Medical Centre, which is the busiest Major Trauma Centre in the United Kingdom. These post are designed to provide the experience and training opportunities to achieve a doctoral level degree in research related to Trauma and Orthopaedics. In addition to excellent research opportunities the successful candidate will participate in the on call rota at the QMC and participate in the operating theatre and out-patient clinics. There is a programme of daily and weekly training meetings open to all clinical fellows.
Main duties of the job
Teaching Medical Students.
Sub ST3 grade co-ordination.
There is a very active postgraduate programme with a clinical conference, lecture and seminar each week during term time.
Twice weekly X-ray conferences are held.
There are also many special clinics affording the opportunity to see specialised problems.
Facilities for clinical and laboratory research exist in the hospital and university. There is an active audit programme in which the appointee will be expected to play a full part in the research and audit of the department, and to demonstrate this through publication and presentation.
Participate in Registrar On Call rota, operating theatres and outpatient clinics.

The T&O research department has an excellent record for publishing audit, clinical and basic sciences research and there are ample opportunities to complete a project during the attachment. It is not recognised for professional training in surgery or trauma and Orthopaedics, but will provide training in line with the ISCP/OCAP in Trauma and Orthopaedics. The successful candidate will work with Professor Ollivere as their clinical and academic supervisor.
