Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive teams as a Trainee Assistant Physiologist within the Clinical Measurement Department at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and the Cardio-Respiratory Department at Queen's Hospital Burton (QHB).
This role is ideal for someone with an interest in healthcare science who is keen to develop skills in performing routine diagnostic investigations. Following completion of the required training and competency assessments, you will work as an Assistant Physiologist, undertaking a range of standard diagnostic clinical measurement investigations across various sections of the department.
Services are primarily delivered from RDH and QHB, with additional clinics based at our Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) at Florence Nightingale, Ilkeston and Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital.

Main duties of the job
To perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) for inpatients and outpatients of all ages in accordance with departmental protocols and national standards. To support the delivery of a range of cardiology and respiratory diagnostic services within a busy clinical environment. To prepare patients for investigations, ensuring procedures are clearly explained and patient dignity, comfort and safety are maintained at all times. To accurately record, process and store diagnostic data using the appropriate clinical systems. To assist qualified staff with additional diagnostic tests as skills and competencies develop. To undertake training and assessment towards the SCST Practical Award and Certificate in Electrocardiography, applying learning to clinical practice. To maintain clinical areas, equipment and stock, ensuring infection prevention and control standards are met. To work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to service efficiency and high-quality patient care. To comply with Trust policies, professional standards, and health and safety requirements at all times. Qualifications and Experience Essential
GCSE Grade C or above (4-9) in English, Maths and Science
Desirable
SCST Certificate in Electrocardiography Basic Life Support Experience in a healthcare, patient facing environment (paid or voluntary)
Experience Essential
Understands the role of a Healthcare Science Associate within a healthcare environment. Good IT skills and familiarity with common computing packages.
Desirable
Experience of managing and maintaining technical equipment and related stock.
Skills Essential
Ability to identify issues with scientific equipment and take appropriate corrective action under senior guidance. Ability to meet travel requirements for cross-site working.
