Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and inspirational Modern Matron to provide senior nursing leadership across the Secure, Acute and Crisis inpatient wards at Parklands Hospital (Hazel Ward - PICU and Place of Safety), Cherry Ward and Juniper Ward).
The Modern Matron will be accountable for ensuring high standards of risk management, patient safety, cleanliness and dignity within the clinical environment, ensuring full compliance with the Matron's Charter and Hygiene Code across the Acute and Crisis inpatient pathway.
You will provide visible, compassionate and professional clinical leadership, ensuring consistent delivery of high quality, evidence based care to patients and their families, with patient safety as the overriding priority. The role requires strong professional role modelling and the ability to foster a culture of collective responsibility, accountability and compassionate care.
Working closely with multi disciplinary and multi agency partners, you will contribute to the strategic development, service improvement and quality assurance of Acute and Crisis inpatient services at Parklands Hospital, supporting delivery of safe, effective and well led care.
This role is ideally suited to a motivated and experienced senior nurse with strong leadership skills and a passion for quality improvement in inpatient mental health services.
Main duties of the job
The Modern Matron provides senior professional nursing leadership across the Secure, Acute and Crisis inpatient wards at Parklands Hospital, with accountability for the quality, safety and effectiveness of care delivered across the Acute and Crisis inpatient pathway.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring the clinical environment is safe, therapeutic and conducive to recovery, maintaining high standards of risk management, cleanliness and dignity in line with the Matron's Charter, Hygiene Code, clinical governance requirements and legislation. The role ensures that evidence based, multi disciplinary care is delivered in accordance with professional standards, with consistent oversight of medicines management, physical health monitoring, nutrition and the fundamentals of care.
The Modern Matron provides visible leadership and role modelling, fostering a culture of compassionate care, collective responsibility and continuous improvement. They ensure effective clinical risk assessment, safeguarding, incident management and learning from adverse events, supporting investigations and service improvement activity.
The role includes responsibility for workforce leadership, supervision, appraisal, learning & development, skill mix and recruitment, alongside effective communication with service users, carers and partners. The Modern Matron contributes to operational management, performance monitoring, policy development & Trust wide collaboration to ensure services are safe, effective & well led.
