Job summary

We are looking for a clinical psychologist to join our specialist children's Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service, which covers Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). This is an exciting opportunity for someone who'd like to help us develop new pathways for complex ADHD assessments, alongside the wider MDT.

You will be joining the friendly and supportive Emotional Behavioural Wellbeing team, which includes psychologists, mental health nurses and speech & language therapists. Formulation and differential diagnosis will be key parts of this role, and the post-holder will have knowledge and experience of neurodivergence, mental health and trauma.

You will receive regular supervision and line management from a clinical psychologist, with opportunities for reflective practice and protected time and funds for CPD.

Main duties of the job

This new clinical psychologist post with have a particular focus on supporting MDT colleagues to complete complex diagnostic ADHD assessments. This will involve cognitive assessments, and other work with children and young people presenting with high learning and psychological needs.

The role will require the application of psychological theory, formulation and evidence informed approaches to support the conclusion of complex neurodevelopmental assessments. A key part will be offering formulations, advice and consultation to multi professional colleagues in the assessment and differential diagnosis of complex cases.

The role will involve working with high levels of family distress, mental health difficulties, and a range of risk type behaviours.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent)

Desirable

Training in child neurodevelopmental assessment

Skills Essential

Clinical skills in conducting specialist assessments (including cognitive and neurodevelopmental) from a psychological perspective

Experience Essential

Specialist knowledge and experience of psychological assessment, formulation and interventions - with the ability to use these skills to provide advice to education and health professionals Experience of working with children, young people and families

Desirable

Experience of working in multi-agency neurodevelopmental services

Knowledge Essential

Ability to utilise theoretical and practical knowledge in understanding neurodivergent needs
