About this role
Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Consultant in Microbiology to further develop our highly rated services at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity, and it is anticipated that there will be occasion for the appointee to develop a sub-specialty interest within the role.
You will become part of a team which takes joint responsibility for the medical supervision of the Trust's microbiology department, and infection control processes.
Applications are welcome from any infection specialists, whether Microbiologists or Infectious Diseases Doctors, or Consultant clinical scientists.
The out of hours commitment will be worked on a 1 in 5 basis following successful recruitment of this post. Out of hours cover is a telephone advice service for laboratory or clinical staff, there is currently no requirement to attend the laboratory at weekends, with authorising done remotely.
Clinical roles will be mutually agreed between the Microbiology consultants, and each will take a lead in different areas (antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, laboratory management, OPAT), whilst also providing cross-cover for their colleagues where required to meet the demands of the service. Roles will be shared between consultants, being rotated at mutually convenient time intervals.
There may be scope to develop infection services further around an infection consult service, and OPAT provision, depending on the particular skills and/or preferences of the candidate.
