About this role

Job summary

The post holders will support and facilitate individual therapeutic care plans/therapeutic interventions for adults with eating disorders, that have been planned with or by qualified members of the team in conjunction with the Team's Consultant and Managers. This role will support patients in a hospital clinic setting as well as their homes.

You will play a key role in developing and facilitating collaborative and therapeutic activities with service users. You will also provide person centred support in a planned and coordinated manner.

Main duties of the job

To coordinate, facilitate and carry out individual and group activity programmes with service users. Care will be planned under the supervision of senior members of the Team.

Creating positive working relationships with local services and local activity providers covered by the Trust, as well as creating and compiling resources within the service.

To provide support to families and carers, including assisting other colleagues in the safe running of the service.

To provide support for service users around eating and meal preparation in their own home, at the Maudsley Hospital and within the local community throughout the week

To attend and contribute to clinical team meetings and handovers across the Liaison and emergency department services.

You will support senior team members with welcoming, conducting baseline observations following referrals.

Job description Job responsibilities

To work as part of the multi-professional team supporting the planning, implementation and evaluation of service user care needs in collaboration with the service users, carers and families, and other community/inpatient services.

To support personalised care planning within the multi-professional team, working closely with service users and their carers; to assist service users in their recovery goals which may include supporting them with practical/daily living tasks and engagement in social inclusion activities; working to a high standard and ensuring that as needs change care plans are updated. To regularly support service users with meal preparation and completion of meals across various settings, including service user homes, the community and the Maudsley Hospital, throughout the week.

To demonstrate risk awareness with respect to risk assessment and ongoing risk management, practising safely and according to individual service user needs and risk management plans. Working alongside qualified staff to anticipate the individual needs of service users, showing risk awareness and communicating to relevant parties as required

To provide relevant support to carers and families in relation to their rights as carers and their involvement in the care of the service user when they are under the care of the team.

To work in close partnership and maintain effective communication links with other Borough mental health services and community agencies in order to ensure the continuity of quality clinical care for service users.

To ensure maintenance of clinical records in accordance with good practice and the Code of Conduct for Non-Regulated Clinical Workers. To maintain confidentiality by ensuring information is shared in accordance with Trust standards and guidelines.

To take responsibility for keeping the team mental health resources up to date. To record and report untoward incidents, taking appropriate action and ensuring relevant staff are informed.

Take part in regular supervision and appraisal and contribute to the well-being of the team by supporting other team members. To treat all colleagues with dignity and respect. To undertake all mandatory training requirements of the role.

To contribute towards work with service development initiatives involving service users and carers where appropriate. To participate in audit, service evaluation and research undertaken by the team.

To be physically capable of fulfilling the role- undertaking a minimum of 4 visits per shift including accessing high-rise buildings and being able to respond rapidly to crises if required.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NVQ 3 Plus short courses to Diploma Level or Equivalent experience or NVQ Level 4 in appropriate field (A)

Desirable

Psychology degree or equivalent experience, or Evidence of continued academic development (I/A/T) Completion of the Care Certificate

Experience Essential

Extensive experience within a mental health care settings

Desirable

Experience of working with people with eating disorders

Knowledge Essential

Able to work with a wide variety of professionals and agencies Commitment to working across service boundaries and facilitating continuity of care across community services Good written and verbal communication and IT skills Able to travel extensively within the community Ability to motivate clients who are difficult to engage and co-ordinate the support with fellow staff members.

Desirable

Knowledge of mental health policy development Training in other specific interventions e.g. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy. Ability to prioritise workload and carry out work efficiently and effectively.

Skills Essential

Knowledge of the principles of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practise in assessment of the provision of services Ability to work with carers and families and commitment to developing user-focused services

Desirable

Motivated to participate in required training and development.
