Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to take on the role of Unit Manager for a busy 24 bedded short stay Emergency Assessment Unit.
This busy unit is looking for a highly skilled, experienced Senior Sister/Charge Nurse who is motivated and forward thinking and keen to embrace the challenges acute nursing brings. The ideal candidate would possess excellent proven leadership skills, management skills and be able to work under pressure.
EAU 4 is a 24 bedded short stay assessment unit. The ward admits patients from both AMU, ED predominately medicine, the unit is busy and fast paced and has a high turnover and variety of acute conditions which makes it an exciting and interesting place to work.

Main duties of the job
Main responsibilities and accountability for assuring:
Safe and effective person centred care is provided by nurses and support staff to meet the needs of patients/clients and their carers The highest standards of cleanliness and infection prevention and control are achieved and maintained (Ward Sisters Charter DHSSPS, 2006) Effective leadership and management of nurses and support staff with clear lines of professional and organisational accountability performance and development of staff Nurses and support staff communicate effectively with patients/clients and their carers and other members of the multi-disciplinary team Effective management of all information to meet the needs of patients/clients/carers, the organisation and its staff, partner organisations and other agencies Proactive development and monitoring of nursing services to improve the quality of care provided for patients/clients and their carers Effective resource management within allocated budgetary constraints Enhancement of the patient/client experience in all aspects of the patient/client journey Implementation of effective risk management processes Promotion of a supportive environment that enables staff and students to demonstrate ongoing learning and development Provision of an environment that enhances multi-disciplinary team working

He/she will lead by example an empower staff in their personal and professional development to undertake a greater range of clinical skills to modernise and improve patient care, including updates of essential training. You will be expected to play a proactive role in quality and service improvement working closely with the Matron and medical leads and will be responsible for the monitoring and auditing of clinical standards of care. High quality communication along with a passion for acute medicine is essential for this role.

Registered with NMC Band 6 or above minimum 2 years Demonstrate experience of leading and coordinating a clinical team Urgent care knowledge/SDEC - especially in Acute Medicine Able to work flexibly - with 24 hour responsibility.
