We have an exciting opportunity to join South Staffordshire CAMHS as a Clinical Associate in Psychology to complete a MSc Clinical Associate in Psychology post-graduate course at Nottingham Trent University.

This will involve completing the MSc over 18 months and working as a Band 5, working specifically with young people for 3 days in the clinical setting as part of your study. All clinical work is supervised (1- 1) by a Principal Clinical Psychologist within the team.

As part of your training, you will be expected to attend the Nottingham Trent University for 1 day per week (alongside teaching blocks) with a dedicated study day. NTU offer a blended approach to learning. Attendance on the course is a mandatory requirement of this role and the subsequent role of a qualified Clinical Associate in Psychology is dependent on successful completion of the MSc.

Upon completing the MSc, you will be employed as a Band 6 Clinical Associate in Psychology, providing assessments and interventions to children and young people accessing CAMHS and will be based within the Cannock team.

Main duties of the job

This is a training role and you will work within South Staffordshire CAMHS team based in Cannock, providing interventions under supervision whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. The training post will equip you to provide psychological interventions for children and young people consistent with the course you are attending.

Upon completing the MSc, you will be employed as a Band 6 Clinical Associate in Psychology providing assessments and interventions to children and young people accessing CAMHS and will be based within the Cannock team.

There is an expectation to be able to start with CAMHS in early September 2026 followed, with a university induction on 16th September 2026, followed by 2 weeks of university attendance commencing 21st September 2026. You must be able to travel to NTU as part of your induction and throughout your training.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to work and train within our service. The training post will equip the you to provide interventions for children, young people or families using psychological interventions. You will work with young people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. If you have suitable experience/qualifications and an interest in working with young people in a mental health environment and would like to further develop your skills, this could be the post for you.

This role will be best suited for applicants that are able to balance a very busy work and study schedule. You will be an employee at the service but also enrolled on the MSc course. As this is a Postgraduate level training, you will be required to study and perform at academic level. Applicants must be prepared to work towards their studies outside of protected study time (such as on weekends and after work). Protected study time or teaching days are typically two days a week during term time and will be a mixture of in person and online sessions. Applicants must be willing to travel to Nottingham Trent University to attend their lectures.

You will, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, provide psychological interventions to support the person to meet their agreed goals and coordinate and/ or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilising recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the intervention.

Undergraduate degree in Psychology (minimum 2:2)

Experience Essential

Experience of working with children, young people and families with a range of emotional/mental health, behavioural and specific needs (additional health, developmental, offending or substance misuse needs).
