About this role

Job summary

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Therapeutic Practitioner will be responsible for the assessment, risk planning, care planning and providing a therapeutic intervention for children and young people up to the age of 18 who are experiencing a Mental Health crisis with complex needs and are at risk of admission to hospital.

We would particularly welcome applications from Welsh speakers; but even if you don't speak any Welsh, or want to develop your skills, don't worry: the health board will support you with training.

Main duties of the job

Provide advice, training, consultation, and formal supervision, to CAMHS Crisis staff, who work with children, young people, and their families/carers with moderate, complex, and severe mental health problems.

The post holder will have a substantial knowledge of the field of child and adolescent mental health and will possess strong engagement skills, the ability to work creatively in relation to young people and their families presenting in crisis and work effectively with complex multi-agency networks.

To organise and chair multi-agency and multi-professional meetings with complex case management when appropriate.

To assume line management responsibility, manage the multidisciplinary team and resources and co-ordinate the team to provide an integrated service provision.

To allocate, delegate and overview the day-to-day work of the team, ensuring that it is allocated to appropriate staff in line with their experience, skill and discipline.

To organise and plan the smooth running of the team through team meetings, information sharing, consultation, and mutual support.

To undertake individual staff reviews to enable the setting of Personal Development Plans annually and ensure on going professional Development.

To contribute to the education, training and development of the team in identifying learning needs, organising training, ensuring regular updating of knowledge and skills development.

Person Specification

Qualification and knowledge Essential

1)Qualified Health or Social Care Professional (RMN, Dip SW etc) 2) Postgraduate qualification or significant relevant experience in related field 3)Postgraduate qualification/training in evidence based therapeutic interventions for young people in crisis or to avoid crisis 4)Evidence of personal and clinical development 5)Extensive knowledge of a wide range of mental health issues 6)Knowledge and application of the Mental Health Measure 7)Knowledge and training in evidence-based interventions, (DBT skills, CBT skills and other interventions) both new and historic 8)Knowledge of current legislation

Desirable

1)Management experience 2) Understanding of clinical governance and service development 3)Level 7 post reg qualification/ experience

Experience Essential

1)Community, hospital and acute experience 2)Ability to manage many pressing priorities with professionalism and confidence 3) Leading by thoughtful reflection and evidence 4)Experience of working therapeutically with parents/carers/families of children and young people with complex mental health problems 5)Clinical leadership skills

Desirable

1)Ability to provide presentations of a significant topic to audiences, with confidence 2) Experience of providing professional teaching and training for other professionals working with the client group within the service and within related agencies 3)Experience of providing supervision in group and individually
