At Malbank School and Sixth Form College, we believe that strong numeracy skills are essential for success across the curriculum and in later life. We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Maths Intervention Learning Support Assistant to work alongside the Maths Department, supporting students who are struggling in maths to catch up and achieve their potential.
This role is funded through Pupil Premium and therefore has a clear priority focus on supporting pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium.
The Role
The successful candidate will:
Work closely with the Maths Department to plan, deliver and review targeted maths interventionsSupport students who are significantly below age-related expectations in numeracy through structured intervention programmesPlan interventions alongside subject specialists, using assessment information to identify priority studentsProvide 1:1 and small-group support to help students close gaps in key elements of the maths curriculumExtract students from our internal seclusion room who are significantly behind in their work to help them catch upExtract small groups of students from maths lessons to support them with essential curriculum contentMonitor, assess and track progress of students receiving interventionBuild positive, supportive relationships with vulnerable and disadvantaged learnersWork collaboratively with SEND, pastoral and year teams to remove barriers to learning
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking someone who:
Has experience working with young people (school-based experience desirable but not essential)Enjoys maths and has a genuine interest in supporting students to improve their numeracy skillsIs keen to learn and work closely with the Maths DepartmentDoes not need to have an extensive mathematical background, but must be willing to develop subject knowledgeIs patient, resilient and committed to helping students make progressCan work independently and manage a structured intervention time whilst also contributing effectively to a teamIs committed to inclusive education and high expectations for all learners
Training and support will be provided, including guidance on the delivery of a range of maths intervention programmes.
