We are looking to recruit a motivated Consultant in Acute Medicine to join colleagues in a dynamic general medicine service within the Health Board in delivering and supporting the Welsh Government's vision for NHS Wales. This new appointment will join the team of established medical consultants working across Pembrokeshire and will have support to develop/maintain a specialist interest.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Grade in Acute Medicine, you will play a key role in:

Delivering high quality acute and emergency medical careSupporting the leadership and development of Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and the Acute Clinical Decisions Unit (ACDU) Contributing to strategic improvements in unscheduled care across the Health Board Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across Primary Care, ED, Acute Oncology, WAST, and community servicesParticipating in innovative pathways such as Hospital @ Home, CATCH outreach, virtual wards and hot clinics Office accommodation, secretarial support and full IT access (intranet/internet) are provided. Applicants seeking less than full time hours will be considered, with job content tailored individually.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge Essential

Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice. On the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date. Valid Certified Advanced Life Support. Where a sub-specialty interest is required sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice - fellowship or equivalent level experience.

Additional Higher qualification(s).

Clinical Experience Essential

Broad based experience within the specialty area. Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post. Experience of leading a team.

Desirable

Previous experience working in the UK or NHS.

Teaching Essential

Ability to critically assess learning requirements for self and others. Evidence of organising programmes and teaching all staff groups. Willingness to teach all grades of professional multidisciplinary staff.

Teaching qualification.

Research and Scholarship Essential

Demonstrates knowledge of current research and best practice in the specialty area. Evidence of keeping up to date with current research and best practice. Evidence of locating and using clinical guidelines appropriately. Evidence of communicating and interpreting research evidence in a meaningful way.

Welsh Speaker (Level 1) Listening/Speaking: Pronounce Welsh words, place names, department names, etc. Greet and understand a greeting. Use basic every day words and phrases, e.g. thank you, please, excuse me, etc. Understand / pass on simple verbal requests of a routine / familiar / predictable kind using simple language, e.g. 'May I speak to...'. State simple requests and follow up with extra questions / requests in a limited way. Reading/Understanding: Understand simple key words and sentences on familiar / predictable matters relating to own job area, e.g. on signs, in letters. Writing: Fill in simple forms, note down simple information, e.g. date and venue of a meeting, Welsh address, etc.

Clinical Governance Essential

Understanding of the role of Clinical Governance. Participation in clinical audit (or quality improvement project) and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice. Knowledge of annual job planning/appraisal review process.

Demonstrates knowledge of safeguarding requirements and takes appropriate responsibility. Evidence of applying appropriate equality and diversity legislation.
