Ashford and St. Peter's NHS Foundation Trust An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Dental Nurse to join our specialist team within the Maxillofacial & Orthodontic department.
This role does not have set days or hours, but it is a great opportunity for someone working part time, who would like some extra hours and some experience working in a hospital environment.
We are looking for a highly motivated flexible person who can demonstrate a dedication to quality care and provide high standards of nursing.
Applicants should ideally hold:
A Certificate in Dental Nursing (NEBDN). GDC Registration. Post qualification of Conscious Sedation, Orthodontics or Oral Hygiene.A minimum of 3 years dental nursing experience
Our department of RDN's provide care and support to patients undergoing Maxillofacial/Oral and Orthodontic procedures in a busy Outpatient setting.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will: Provide specialist nursing care to all patients attending the Maxillofacial & Orthodontic Department. To prepare, organise and maintain high standards of patient care in the clinical environment in collaboration with the clinical team. To ensure the effective daily management in the absence of the departmental nurse manager.

Job description Job responsibilities
To provide Specialist Nursing care to our patients undergoing Orthodontic and Maxillofacial clinics.
Clinical
To provide specialist nursing care to patients undergoing Orthodontic treatment, knowledge of fixed and removable appliances required.
To provide specialist nursing care to Oral and Maxilllofacial Surgery patients requiring surgery and trauma patients referred from A & E and Walk in Centres.
Provide nursing care for all patients attending new and review clinics, working closely with the clinical team.
Undertake specialist care procedures required for patients receiving intravenous sedation.
Advice to patients post procedure and prior to their discharge from clinic.
Undertake care and supervision for patients with medically compromised conditions and physical needs.
To be responsible for the preparation of all clinical areas. Preparation is essential for the effective running of treatment clinics; ensures continuous patient care during the patient episode.
To ensure all surgical/orthodontic instruments are correctly sent for decontamination, complying with local traceable sterilisation procedures.
To undertake the care, maintenance and cleaning of equipment in the clinical areas in line with the Trusts infection control policy.
To nurse effectively and safety during procedures maintaining the personal protective equipment policy.
Communication
Be an active member of the departmental team to facilitate effective running of clinics.
Liaise with other staff and disciplines.
Respect confidentiality of all information pertaining to the patients and their families.
Promote good communication and interpersonal relationships.
Participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication with the patients and carers.
General responsibilities/Other Duties
Assist in theatres and act as 1st Assistant if required.
Ensure safe storage and administration of medicines, in accordance with the Trust policy and practice.
Report and record any incidents and complaints according to trust policy.
Check that clinic notes are readily available with all relevant documentation.
Undertake Audits within speciality.
Assist Departmental Nurse Manager with duty rota planning, ensuring effective use of staff and resources.
In the absence of the Departmental Nurse Manager take responsibility of the department on a daily basis.
Understand the need for budgetary control and be aware of the current cost of medical supplies and equipment, practising economy in their use. Report any stock shortage to the Departmental Nurse Manager.
Professional/Personal Responsibility
Have the required level of knowledge of area of speciality and is able to apply that knowledge.
Dental Nurse Post Qualification of Oral Hygiene, Orthodontic Nursing or Conscious Sedation.
Demonstrates experience in maintaining personal and professional development in order to keep knowledge and skills up to date.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Certificate in Dental Nursing (NEBDN) or level 3 Dental Post Qualification Certificate of either Conscious Sedation, Orthodontic Nursing or Oral Hygiene or working towards one of the above qualifications. Registered with the General Dental Council
