We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join the Acute Speech and Language Therapy service at Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust. We are a small friendly service passionate about quality patient care, service development and creating a brilliant learning environment.

The post holder will join our team to work together to provide a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) service for a varied range of inpatient presentations including complex neurological presentations within Royal Cornwall Hospital sites. There are regular opportunities for involvement in team service development, hospital wide service development, training and education alongside professional CPD.

Main duties of the job

To provide a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) service for inpatients within Royal Cornwall Hospital sites. The caseload will consist of general inpatients, including complex neurological conditions.

Person Specification

Knowledge Essential

Degree/graduate diploma or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration as a Speech and Language Therapist

Desirable

Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Completion of any role relevant CPD / courses Membership of Clinical Excellence Networks

Experience Essential

A wide range of post registration Speech and Language Therapy experience including delivery of services for complex patients Evidence of completed post registration dysphagia competencies. Experience of working in an acute setting / with adults with acquired conditions. Understanding of relevant local and national clinical guidelines Experience of working as part of an MDT delivering high quality care. Experience presenting/ delivering teaching and or training to a range of groups. Computer literate to include knowledge of Microsoft office oEvidence of CPD

Desirable

Experience of working with patients with tracheostomies. Experience of carrying out Video Fluoroscopic evaluation of Swallowing (VFS) Experience of Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) Experience of quality improvement projects. Experience with Electronic patient record systems such as Epic / Oracle Experience Supervising junior staff, assistants, and students.
