Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join the multi-disciplinary team within Interventional Radiology and the Vascular Access Team as Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse. This is a training post commencing at band 5 until training and competence in both Interventional Radiology and Vascular Access has been achieved, likely timeframe 6-12 months.

We are seeking to appoint a confident and assertive individual who is passionate about providing high quality patient care, who is keen to contribute towards the development of services within interventional Radiology and the vascular access team.

The ideal candidate should have an interest in, and understanding of Interventional Radiology and vascular access and have significant post registration experience at band 5 or above. You must be driven and possess excellent organisational and time management skills as well showing compassion and a responsiveness to the varying needs of our patients.

The nursing team within Radiology provides care to patients within a variety of settings including Interventional Radiology (Room 5), ultrasound, CT and pre assessment. We also provide a Trust-wide Vascular Access service. You will be expected to provide efficient, high quality care across all modalities with patient safety at the forefront of your practice.You must be a 1st Level Registered Nurse (Adult) , hold or be working towards a teaching qualification.

Main duties of the job

To support the Radiology Sister in the day to day management of the nursing team within Interventional Radiology and Vascular Access Team

The post holder is required to abide by the NMC Code of Professional Conduct with particular reference to acknowledging the limitation of competence of staff in order to safeguard the well-being of patients

The post holder will support advanced practice under the supervision of the Radiology Lead Nurse/Radiologist

The post holder should be willing to undertake enhanced practice including PICC and midline insertion and US guided venepuncture and cannulation. They will also have a vital role to play in ensuring care and maintenance of vascular access devices and the promotion of vessel health and preservation

The post holder will work as scrub and circulating Nurse for Interventional procedures and will be expected to act as nurse in charge

The post holder will take responsibility for line management of members of the nursing team, will provide support and guidance to both junior members of the team and student nurses. You would provide clinical and educational support to the nursing team and would be expected to participate in the implementation of both Trust and national initiatives where appropriate.

The post holder will be flexible in their approach as the Radiology Department is constantly changing so that it can provide a service that meets Local and National Modernisation Agendas
