About this role

Job summary

Rehabilitation Assistant on elective orthopaedic ward. Providing Physiotherapy and occupational therapy assessments and treatment to patients following routine elective orthopaedic surgery.

The post holder will also undertake administrative duties to support the functioning of the department. The workload will include outpatients, in patients and community working (e.g. patient's homes).

Main duties of the job

To provide Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy assessment and treatment to patient following routing elective orthopaedic surgery.

Assist Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to provide a high standard of patient care by undertaking delegated clinical duties. The post holder will assist with the rehabilitation of Orthopaedic patients, progressing treatments in line with departmental protocols.

To undertake Therapy Manual Handling training as required

To undertake any other duties commensurate with grade as requested by the Therapy Managers or Clinical Lead/Senior Therapists

To be aware of own Health and Safety responsibilities including contributing to the infection control and cleanliness of the hospital by ensuring cleanliness of own equipment, undertaking mandatory training, abiding by the hand washing policy and other policies related to Barrier nursing.

Person Specification

Education Essential

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge and skills gained through practical experience e.g. external courses, CPD portfolio, practical assessment through supervision/appraisal in a therapy unit/rehabilitation setting

Desirable

GCSE or equivalent in English and/or Maths

Skills and Experience Essential

Experience as a Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy assistant or rehabilitation assistant or similar Evidence of ability to work without direct supervision Experience of supervision of patients undergoing exercise as individuals Training and learning in a related area and knowledge of a variety of orthopaedic conditions Experience of faciltiating classes and or patient education Able to communicate well and with people who have difficulty communicating Good team working skills Evidence of being self motivated and able to motivate patients Able to manage own caseload of patients with routine conditions Able to follow and progress prescribed clinical programmes with minimal or no imimediate supervision Self motivated and aware of boundaries of own practice Able to demonstrate decision making ability Experience of assessing patient requiring walking aids/ other aids and instructing them in their correct and safe usage IT skills Able to learn new procedure and techniques and follow instructions
