Job summary

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) is pleased to offer fully funded sponsorship opportunities for qualified Nurses and Midwives to undertake the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) - School Nursing qualification (Level 7) and develop their career as a School Nurse.

This SCPHN training post is fully funded by NHS England, and successful candidates will be appointed on Agenda for Change Band 6 (Annex 21) for the duration of the programme. Applicants must be NMC-registered nurses or midwives, hold a Level 6 qualification (minimum 2:1), demonstrate recent study at Level 7 within the past two years, and be able to commence the programme in September 2026 at King's College London.

This is an exciting time to join LGT as we continue to shape and strengthen 5-19 Children and Young People's services. LGT is committed to the development of School Health Community Public Health Nursing, supported by a clear Public Health Nursing Strategy and a well-established training and supervision framework across School Health Service teams.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain specialist public health knowledge, leadership skills and practical experience within a supportive learning environment. The program is a 50/50 split between university-based study and practical, community-based experience

Interview Structure: Shortlisted candidates will participate in a two-part interview process:

Group Discussion - Candidates will engage in a conversation on an unseen topic or question.

Individual Interview - A panel interview where candidates will deliver a short 5-minute presentation at the beginning. Further details will be provided upon shortlisting.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

NMC Registration Current registration for nursing or midwifery, OR evidence of application with confirmed registration within 2 months of the start date.

Educational Qualifications

BSc degree (or above) qualification equivalent to 360 credits at level 6 or evidence of previous education and learning to this level. Postgraduate Diploma Route A 2:1 Honours Degree is required. Please refer to the candidate guidance for HEI details.

Eligibility to Work in the UK Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the UK.

Literacy & Numeracy Proficiency

Numeracy: National Qualifications Framework Level 1-2 (equivalent to GCSE).

Literacy: National Qualifications Framework Level 3-4 (equivalent to A-level).

Education and Qualification Essential

Current NMC Registration for nursing or midwifery or o Evidence of application for NMC registration and confirmed NMC registration within 2 months of the start date DipHE (or above) qualification equivalent to 120 credits at level 5 (of the Higher Education Credit Framework for England) 2 or evidence of previous education and learning to this level. 3

Fitness to Practice Essential

Is up to date and fit to practice safely

Literacy and Numeracy Essential

Literacy and Numeracy at the level of the National Qualifications Framework at level 1-2 for Numeracy (equivalent of GCSE) and 3-4 for Literacy (equivalent of A level).

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of the Public Health role of contemporary health visiting & working in community settings Knowledge of local and national policies which influence the provision of health visiting Current knowledge of safeguarding issues Knowledge of quality issues, the audit process and clinical governance

Experience Essential

Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams Evidence of involvement in the management of difficult situations and conflict resolution

Desirable

Experience of managing staff within a team Evidence of working without direct supervision and managing own workload
