This post is offered to support service continuity within the Plastic Surgery Department during a period of workforce transition and increasing service demand.
The successful candidate will support delivery of
Acute Plastic Surgery and hand trauma services
Elective Plastic Surgery pathways
Reconstructive microsurgery services
Day-case and ambulatory surgery activity
The role is designed to provide
A varied operative experience
MDT working within a supportive consultant-led environment
Opportunities for service development and progression

An experienced SAS doctor
A post-CCT fellow
A surgeon seeking flexible or less-than-full-time working
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will
Participate in the management of
o Acute Plastic Surgery admissions
o Hand trauma
o Skin cancer surgery
o Elective Plastic Surgery procedures
Support reconstructive microsurgery services
Undertake supervised and independent operating appropriate to experience
Participate in
o Day-case surgery
o See-and-treat skin surgery pathways
o Outpatient clinics

On-Call Responsibilities
Participate in the Plastic Surgery on-call rota appropriate to grade and experience
Provide support for
o Hand trauma
o Emergency Plastic Surgery care
Consultant support available at all times
Service Delivery
The postholder will contribute to
RTT recovery initiatives
Pathway redesign and efficiency programmes
Hand therapy-led discharge pathways
Ambulatory and day-case care development
Governance and Audit
Participate in
o Clinical governance
o Audit
o Morbidity & mortality meetings
o MDT meetings
Maintain accurate medical records
Work in accordance with
o GMC Good Medical Practice
o Trust governance policies

Essential - Full GMC registration with a licence to practice - Professional Qualifications FRCS (Plastics) and / or EBOPRAS
Desirable - Microsurgery fellowship and / or hand surgery fellowship

Essential - Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date must be within 6 months), CESR or European Community Rights - Knowledge of Current Trends in Specialty of management of breast reconstruction and / or hand surgery - Knowledge of Current Trends in Specialty of management of Skin Cancers. - Experience of Medical Management
