About this role

Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Band 6 Physiotherapist to join Kingston Rehabilitation Centre on a 12-month fixed term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist rehabilitation setting supporting individuals with acquired brain injury, complex neurological conditions, orthopaedic rehabilitation, and slow-stream rehabilitation needs.

The successful candidate will manage their own clinical caseload as an autonomous practitioner, delivering evidence-based, patient-centred physiotherapy interventions. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support high-quality rehabilitation outcomes and safe discharge planning.

We are ideally seeking a full-time physiotherapist (MondayFriday, 9am5pm), however part-time or job-share arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

This role is well suited to a Band 6 physiotherapist with experience in neurorehabilitation or complex care settings who is confident managing a varied caseload and contributing to service development.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating physiotherapy interventions for a varied rehabilitation caseload, including individuals with acquired brain injury, neurological conditions, and complex physical needs.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing an autonomous caseload and delivering individualised rehabilitation programmes

Completing comprehensive assessments and setting SMART, patient-centred goals

Using clinical reasoning and outcome measures to guide treatment and evaluate progress

Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care

Supporting safe discharge planning and community transition where appropriate

Supervising physiotherapy assistants and junior staff when required

Ensuring accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional standards

Contributing to audits, clinical governance, and service development

Supporting safe use of equipment and assessing patient equipment needs

Participating in supervision, training, and continuous professional development

You may also be required to deputise for senior physiotherapy staff when needed.

Job Description (Band 6 Physiotherapist Fixed Term)

The Physiotherapist will provide specialist physiotherapy services within Kingston Rehabilitation Centre under the supervision of the Clinical Head of Rehabilitation Services. The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner, managing a varied caseload of patients with acquired brain injury, complex needs, orthopaedic rehabilitation, and general rehabilitation requirements.

The role involves assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of physiotherapy interventions using evidence-based, client-centred practice. The post holder will contribute to service development, clinical governance, and multidisciplinary team working to ensure high-quality rehabilitation services are delivered in line with organisational and CQC standards.

The post holder will be responsible for their own professional and legal accountability in relation to all aspects of patient care.

Clinical Responsibilities

To assess, treat, and manage a designated caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner. To formulate individual management and treatment programmes using clinical reasoning skills and a range of physiotherapy techniques. To evaluate patient progress, reassess, and modify treatment programmes as required. To provide effective rehabilitation for patients with acquired brain injury, complex needs, orthopaedic conditions, and long-term disabilities. To use SMART goal setting and appropriate outcome measures to support rehabilitation and discharge planning. To ensure all aspects of care meet national, professional, and local standards. To provide physiotherapy input in inpatient, rehabilitation, and where required, community/home settings in line with lone working procedures. To assess equipment needs and ensure safe use and management of all equipment within clinical practice. To maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely patient records in line with professional and legal requirements. Communication and Relationship Skills

To communicate effectively with patients, families, carers, and multidisciplinary team members. To use advanced communication skills including motivation, persuasion, explanation, and gaining informed consent. To identify and overcome barriers to communication with patients with cognitive or physical impairments. To provide advice, education, and instruction to patients, relatives, carers, and other professionals. To promote understanding of physiotherapy aims and ensure coordinated patient care. To liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team and external agencies involved in patient care. To contribute to developing a client-focused service and maintaining positive relationships with commissioners and clinical partners. Leadership, Training and Supervision

To supervise and delegate tasks to physiotherapy assistants and technical instructors. To provide training and guidance to non-qualified staff and members of the wider multidisciplinary team. To provide supervision for physiotherapy students and support visitors or learners in understanding the physiotherapy role. To participate in clinical supervision and reflective practice in line with organisational guidelines. To contribute to induction and orientation of new staff within the multidisciplinary team. To deputise for senior physiotherapists when required, reporting appropriately to senior management. Service Development, Audit and Governance

To participate in audit, research, and clinical governance activities. To use evidence-based practice and current research to inform clinical decision-making. To contribute to service improvement, development, and evaluation of physiotherapy services. To collect and report data and statistics as required by the Clinical Head of Rehabilitation Services. To participate in in-service training, staff meetings, and continuous professional development activities. To identify personal development needs and participate in annual appraisal processes. Health, Safety and Risk Management

To support service development initiatives including use of available rehabilitation resources such as hydrotherapy facilities. Planning and Organisational Duties

To participate in planning of multidisciplinary timetables. To prioritise clinical workload effectively to ensure safe and efficient service delivery. To work alongside senior physiotherapists in day-to-day service delivery and planning. To contribute to service coordination and effective patient flow. Client Care Responsibilities

To deliver individualised physiotherapy programmes using SMART goals and evidence-based interventions. To provide neurorehabilitation, slow-stream rehabilitation, and long-term disability management under senior guidance where required. To ensure safe and timely discharge planning into the community where appropriate. To maintain high standards of clinical care at all times. Equipment and Resources

To be responsible for safe use, management, and maintenance of equipment. To monitor therapy stock and contribute to ordering and equipment needs as required. Information Management

To use electronic patient record systems to document clinical care accurately. To ensure compliance with data protection legislation and organisational standards. To support reporting requirements for healthcare providers and commissioners. Other Responsibilities

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Recognised professional qualification in Physiotherapy Current HCPC registration Post-graduate clinical experience as a physiotherapist Experience working with people with neurological conditions Experience working with individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI) Experience delivering rehabilitation to patients with complex needs Competence in carrying out assessments and developing evidence-based treatment plans Experience producing clear, accurate clinical reports and documentation Good knowledge of CQC standards and care regulations Understanding of clinical governance principles Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) Experience working autonomously and managing own caseload Commitment to professional standards and ethical practice Ability to demonstrate reflective practice and contribute to audit or service evaluation Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills Strong written communication and documentation skills Good command of written and spoken English Strong organisational and time management skills, with ability to meet deadlines Competent in the use of IT and electronic clinical record systems Ability to provide training, guidance, or supervision to colleagues Ability to work with empathy and a patient-centred approach Active listening skills and ability to adapt communication to patient needs Commitment to safeguarding policies and procedures
