Job summary MFTis seeking an exceptional Director of Finance for NMGH at a pivotal point in the organisation's transformation and the future development of healthcare services across North Manchester. Reporting to Joanne Rowe, Clinical Group Chief Executive, and professionally accountable to Claire Wilson, Group Chief Finance Officer, the postholder will be a key member of the North Manchester Senior Leadership Team and the wider MFT senior finance community. This is a high-profile executive role spanning operational performance, financial sustainability, service transformation and strategic redevelopment. The successful candidate will help shape the future operating model for NMGH while supporting priorities including financial recovery, productivity, service redesign and workforce transformation. NMGH is entering a significant phase of development, with improvement priorities alongside plans linked to the New Hospitals Programme and wider regeneration. This offers a rare opportunity to influence the redevelopment and long-term transformation of a major NHS provider site. The role offers broad visibility within one of the UK's largest NHS organisations, working closely with clinical, operational and corporate leaders to provide strategic financial leadership. It would particularly suit an experienced NHS finance leader seeking executive exposure, transformation experience, major programme involvement and a platform toward future statutory CFO roles.
Main duties of the job
As Director of Finance - North Manchester General Hospital, you will:
Provide strategic financial leadership to the North Manchester Clinical Group as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team. Lead the development and delivery of robust financial strategies, recovery plans and long-term sustainability programmes. Support the organisation's transformation agenda, helping shape future operational and service delivery models. Work closely with clinical and operational leaders to improve financial understanding, ownership and accountability across services. Lead the financial planning process, including annual planning, forecasting, recovery trajectories and business case development. Drive financial improvement, productivity and efficiency initiatives across the Clinical Group. Support major strategic developments linked to the North Manchester redevelopment programme and wider transformation initiatives. Provide high-quality financial analysis, insight and challenge to support operational and strategic decision-making. Develop strong collaborative relationships across MFT and system partners, contributing to wider Trust and system priorities. Lead, develop and inspire the embedded finance team, creating a positive, high-performing and improvement-focused culture. Act as a visible and credible senior leader across the organisation, contributing beyond traditional finance responsibilities.

CCAB-qualified accountant with current professional membership Significant senior finance leadership experience within a complex NHS provider organisation or similarly large and operationally complex environment Strong operational finance experience, including financial planning, forecasting, recovery and performance management Demonstrable experience of supporting financial improvement, productivity and transformation programmes Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and operational leaders to support organisational improvement. Strong strategic thinking, analytical capability and commercial awareness. Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills. Experience of leading and developing high-performing finance teams.
