About this role

Job summary

An opportunity as arisen within the Staffordshire Community Secretarial Team at Samuel Johnson Community Hospital.

This post will be cross site working at Samuel Johnson and Sir Robert Peel Community Hospitals.

We have a full time position available (37.5 hours per week) and two part time positions available (30 hours & 22.5 hours per week).

This role will provide administration support to the secretarial teams and wider colleagues. Main duties will include answering telephone calls from patients, supporting patients with queries and escalating clinical questions as required. The post holder will also support with administration tasks and editing and ensuring letters are sent out in a timely manner.

Applicants must have excellent verbal communication skills and be able to deal with patients with care and compassion.You will need to have excellent organisational skills, and good knowledge of IT systems.

Previous administration experience is essential, ideally in the NHS, however full training on IT systems and processes will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Editing and dispatch of clinical correspondence related to NHS medical patients within agreed timescales and quality standard Be a point of contact for patients and medical staff ensuring queries are answered with skill, sensitivity and in a courteous and professional manner. Excellent organisational and communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Knowledge of Word, Excel, T-Pro, Lorenzo, Cito and e-mail systems would be desirable Telephone queries Working to strict Trust and Government policies Closing date of applications: 04 June 2026

Knowledge, training & experience Essential

A good standard of English to O level/GCSE (A-C grade) or equivalent Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience working in an administrative /patient care environment

Desirable

Experience in an NHS Administration Role Understanding of 18 RTT process Understanding of NHS cancer targets

Skills & Ability Essential

Advanced level of IT to include Microsoft Word and Excel Ability to work to deadlines

Desirable

Knowledge of NHS IT Systems such as T-Pro, Meditech, CRIS

Communication Essential

Good communication skills; excellent written and verbal
