Job summary

The Department of Restorative Dentistry in Musgrove Park Hospital is looking for specialty Dentist to join the current team which consist of three part-time Consultants, a Specialist Dentist and a Dental Hygienist.

This post is to augment the department and help provide Restorative Dentistry services across Somerset and the surrounding counties. We will expect the successful candidate to provide the Restorative Dentistry service which includes treating patients with Head and Neck Cancer, Hypodontia and Cleft Lip and Palate. The agreed post is for 1 day per week.

Main duties of the job

Provide consultant led Restorative Dentistry care, including management of patients with Head & Neck Cancer, Hypodontia, and Cleft Lip & Palate.

Deliver treatment plans set by consultants and work independently where appropriate.

Participate in multidisciplinary working with Orthodontics, Maxillofacial Surgery, Oncology, ENT, Speech & Language, and the Head & Neck MDT.

Contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities.

Support and mentor dental hygienists, nurses, and junior dental staff when required.

Assist with service development and departmental meetings.

Undertake administrative duties related to patient care and departmental operations.

Ensure safe and appropriate use of clinical equipment and report any issues.

Complete mandatory training, annual appraisal, and job planning requirements.

Adhere to Trust policies including infection control, safeguarding, confidentiality, and health & safety.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered dental practitioner, with full registration with the GDC BDS qualification or equivalent Postgraduate training in relevant dental specialty Certificate of Medical Education

Experience Essential

Expertise in general Restorative Dentistry Experience managing patients who are medically compromised Experience of dealing with referrals e.g. letters and correspondence

Additional Criteria Essential

Able to address service problems and needs and develop high quality solutions Ability to prioritise clinical need Ability to organise oneself and own work Evidence of training dental/medical and non-medical staff
