Job summary

Are you ready to be the person who can positively affect the outcome of a young persons life?

As a Health and Wellbeing Practitioner, youll be right at the heart of delivering impactful, youth-centred support across local schools, youth hubs, and community settings. This role is all about meeting young people where they arewhether thats in the classroom, youth justice system, or local drop-in centreand offering them non-judgemental, holistic help around risky behaviours including substance use and sexual health.

Youll hold a caseload of young people and deliver a range of evidence-based interventions, from brief advice to structured psychosocial support. Youll also contribute to health promotion through school sessions, community outreach, and targeted group workempowering young people to make informed choices about their wellbeing. Working closely with our Engagement and Participation team, youll help shape education sessions, peer-led programmes and ensure young peoples voices remain central to service design.

Whether youre delivering harm reduction advice, participating in safeguarding meetings, or providing one-to-one care planning, youll play a vital role in reducing risk, building resilience, and improving life chances for children and young people.

Main duties of the job

Youre someone who sees beyond the behaviour and into the potential. Whether its supporting a young person at a youth club, leading a group session in school, or offering guidance over the phoneyou bring empathy, energy, and a commitment to helping young people thrive.

Youll need:

Experience working with children, young people or young adults in community settings Confidence facilitating group work and engaging vulnerable or at-risk groups A strong understanding of safeguarding, risk-taking behaviours, and developmental needs Experience working in multi-agency settings and contributing to care planning The ability to manage a varied caseload across different community and clinical locations A relevant qualification in youth work, psychology, counselling, social work or mental health (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) If you also bring experience in advocacy, delivering professional training, mentoring, or using evidence-based approaches, thats a real plusbut were far more interested in your values, energy and commitment than a perfect CV.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Relevant qualification in substance misuse/youth work/counselling psychology/mental health; such as a Diploma in Youth Work, Social work, Psychology or accredited Counselling or equivalent NVQ Level 3 in Children, Young People or families, social care or mental health.

Desirable

Safeguarding children and adults guidance and legislation. Developmental needs of children and young people. Equality and Diversity guidance and legislation. Confidentiality, consent and mental capacity. Risk taking behaviour and the resulting problems. Mental health, emotional health and emotional wellbeing. Data Protection guidance and legislation. Substance misuse guidelines and quality standards. Contraception and STIs

Experience Essential

Team Player able to work as part of a team, co-operate to work together and in conjunction with others and willing to help and assist whenever possible and appropriate. Interpersonal Skills able to develop, establish and maintain positive relationships with others both internal and external to the organisation. Autonomy ability to work without direct supervision, prioritising work and acting on own initiative where appropriate; pre-empting problems and working to solve them. Strategic Thinking able to identify and manage risk with the ability to elicit information to make an assessment of need. Communication Skills excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to adjust communication style and content to the audience. Confidence & Resilience able to deliver messages in a confident manner with excellent presentation skills and group work skills. Flexible & Adaptable positive attitude to dealing with change; flexible and adaptable, and open to exploring new ideas. Self-Awareness ability to empathise with others, maturity to admit and rectify mistakes and strong degree of personal integrity to adhere to acceptable standards of behaviour. Motivated highly motivated and reliable and organised to plan and meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
