GEH are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Trust grade Speciality doctors in Anaesthetics who wish to work in a busy District General Hospital. The appointment offers the opportunity to practice anaesthesia and critical care medicine in a medium sized district hospital with modern premises, a friendly atmosphere and developments in many areas relevant to anaesthesia and critical care. It is an exciting time for the Trust currently as two new elective care self-contained theatres have recently opened.
Main duties of the job
Support for the new appointee will primarily be from within the Department. The Trust has a supportive environment and is still small enough for personal contact with colleagues from a wide variety of disciplines. Department of Anaesthesia Intensive Care and Pain Medicine
There is a current compliment of 16 substantive and 3 locum Consultants with recent investment for further posts. The Middle grade rota, of which this post will be part of, contains Doctors provided by the West Midlands Deanery and the remaining are GEH Trust Doctors The Anaesthetic Department forms part of the Planned Care Directorate. The department is located on first floor of main building and provides supportive service to Orthopaedics, Trauma, Emergencies, Colorectal, General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology and Dental surgery. The department offers acute pain service and actively uses ultrasound guided interventions and local Anaesthetic infusions through elastomeric pump to manage pain in ward. There is a chronic pain service led by two enthusiastic pain consultants. In addition to weekly four session outpatient clinic, two full day theatre list for pain procedures is offered. The department also runs a preoperative assessment clinic and a high-risk maternity clinic.

The principal elements of the post will be:
To undertake pre-operative assessments. To undertake theatre sessions. To participate in the Registrar grade 1:8 rota covering ITU, Obstetrics, Theatre and A&E. To participate in Clinical Audit, teaching and research. To enrich themselves from the company of a friendly department while adding value to the department. On call
The successful candidate will participate in the Registrar grade on call rota. Teaching
The Specialty Doctor will be expected to participate in the departmental teaching. At present, one half day each month is dedicated to Audit, Morbidity and Mortality reporting. The Hospital Department of Audit, Research and Evidence Based Practice allows for quarterly half-day sessions for Trust Wide and Departmental Professional Development. The Doctor has continuing responsibility for the care of patients under their care. Qualification and Professional Training Essential
MBBS or equivalent GMC Registration with licence to practice Primary FRCA or Equivalent ALS APLS / PILS
