Equipment Library Technical Assistant
Department Medical Equipment Library
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
Band 3 £25,760 - £27,476 per annum pro rata if part-time
A self-motivated dynamic and conscientious Technical Assistant is required to join our busy Medical Equipment Library. Duties will include the supply, collection, and cleaning of medical equipment, requested, and deployed throughout the Trust. Please refer to the JD for additional duties/responsibilities.
The successful candidate will require the ability to work as part of a team and independently. You should be able to work under pressure with the ability to prioritise. The role is physically demanding with long periods of walking and standing. Good numeracy skills with accurate grammar and spelling are important.
Experience of using IT packages is required along with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Basic knowledge of medical equipment is advantageous although training will be provided.

To supply, decontaminate and clean, plus monitor the deployment of the medical equipment from the Equipment Library to all clinical areas as required within Milton Keynes University NHS Trust.To be able to work independently in preparing the medical equipment for medical use on a daily basis, ensuring that the equipment meet standard requirements.To be able to advise nursing/medical staff on various medical equipment available from the Equipment Library on a day to day basis.To have an excellent understanding of the decontamination process, so that cross contamination is kept to a minimum.To be able to recognise faulty/damaged equipment which may adversely affect patient condition if used.To be able to recognise faulty equipment durables as this will adversely affect the patient's wellbeing and condition.To be able to confidently use a computer database, in the control of equipment movements within and outside of the Trust.To carry out scheduled audits in all areas of the Trust to track medical equipment using a handheld PC (Personal digital assistant - PDA).To be able to control and maintain stock levels with the Equipment Library

Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge Essential
Good standard of education 4 GCSE passes or equivalent level of experience including English Basic computer skills
Desirable
Knowledge of medical equipment terminology Knowledge of infection control and decontamination processes Knowledge of using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) -Equipment Tracking Database
Experience Essential
Relevant experience of working with Microsoft packages and experience of working with an Asset Management Database and Radio-Frequency Identification Database (RFID) Working with senior managerial staff Experience of multi-disciplinary team working Basic experience of using IT packages including Microsoft Office
