About this role
Job summary This is the first time the team will have a dedicated Consultant and Specialty Doctor post; creating an exciting opportunity for the post holder to work with the team to develop the role in a way that meets the needs of the young people who find themselves in a mental health crisis, and creating opportunities for the post holder to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for working with children and young people (CYP) within this pathway.
Main duties of the job The post holder will assess complex presentation of CYP in crisis during normal working hours and support the Crisis and THT team in understanding/managing the complex cases that are taken on for crisis intervention. Assessments will often take place at the District General Hospital sites, with the aim of facilitating early discharge from these hospitals. The team will also receive referrals from the Single Point of Access (SPA) or CAMHS teams for CYP presenting in crisis in the community, with the aim of early intervention and avoidance of CAMHS hospital admission.

This is a replacement post after the previous post holder has left, to offer substantive medical capacity in the SET CAMHS Crisis and Therapeutic Home Treatment (THT) Team, to provide high quality preventative care, and to reduce the time CAMHS spend in A&Es. A lot of transformation has taken place already and continues to take place within Essex's Community CAMHS Services.
This is a substantive, full-time post - 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) post with 8 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). This post is vacant currently and we wish to recruit substantively to this post as soon as possible.
It is a substantive post and we would consider requests for flexible working, job share or fixed term if preferred.

1.1 Job Title: Specialty Doctor Community CAMHS Psychiatrist
This post is for an CAMHS Psychiatry Specialty Doctor position in the Southend, Essex, and Thurrock (SET) CAMHS Crisis and Therapeutic Home Treatment (THT) Team, based at Stapleford House, 103 Stapleford Close, Chelmsford, CM2 0QX.

This is a replacement post, that has been created following receiving additional resource from commissioners in order to have substantive medical capacity in the SET CAMHS Crises and Therapeutic Home Treatment Team, to provide high quality preventative care, and to reduce the time CAMHS spend in A&Es. A lot of transformation has taken place already and continues to take place within Essex’s Community CAMHS Services. We wish to recruit substantively to this post as soon as possible.
This is a new post and is full-time - 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) post with 8 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).
Accountability:
The postholder will be professionally and clinically accountable to the Associate Medical Director for Essex (currently Dr Viviana Porcari), and operationally accountable to both the Associate Medical Director and the Director of Children Services Essex & Kent, via the Assistant Director (currently Tina Russell).
The post holder will be a suitably qualified Consultant Psychiatrist with Approved Clinician (AC) certification, or eligibility for it. The post holder will be a GMC registered clinician responsible for patients allocated to them and will assess, manage, plan, and deliver care.
The post holder will support their peers and team leader and be an effective team member whilst working on their own initiative. They will have a commitment to collaborative working and actively supporting and liaising with other health and social care professionals and agencies. There are currently no junior doctors to supervise within the EWMS North East Essex team, however this could change in the near future.
1.2 Main responsibilities
Main responsibilities:
•To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload in the day-to-day allocation of work.
• To deputise when required in the team manager’s absence and delegate appropriately to other medical staff.
• To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
• To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
• To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing, and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust’s risk register.
Clinical Skills:
• To act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.
• The post holder will have full registration with a licence to practice on the General Medical Council (GMC).
• Further professional knowledge will have been gained through accredited courses, workshops, study, and in-house training programmes.
• To be responsible, and accountable, for service delivery to clients/patients.
• To be able to assess and develop care plans to meet the complex needs of patients with a variety of conditions. This includes chronic, acute, and palliative care within own competencies, recognising own limitations and seeking advice when necessary. This will include continuously evaluating and acting on outcomes.
• To be able to initiate referrals to other health professional specialist services and agencies.
• To provide patients and relatives with information and education thus ensuring they have meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life.
• To ensure practice is supported by research, evidence-based practice, literature, and peer review.

Qualifications Essential

Experience Essential
At least 4 years of full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time basis) of which at least 2 years will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
