About this role

Job summary

To deliver the Trusts capital programme as part of a multi disciplinary team of both external resources and in house staff, on time and within allocated budget.

The Commissioning Manager has the lead responsibility for the development and acceptance of design solutions by the end user and relevant stakeholder groups with a particular focus on infection control input.

The Commissioning Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing the commissioning period from contractor hand over to user occupation of the ward/department including Inductions and Post Project Evaluation.

Main duties of the job

Manage stakeholder engagement to define project goals and feasibility.

Establish accommodation needs, occupancy, and room relationships.

Determine equipment and service requirements to meet objectives.

Produce and obtain sign-off for room data sheets, ensuring accurate communication to the design team.

Advise on furniture and equipment options, agree on new or transferred items, and prepare detailed schedules for budgeting and procurement.

Liaise on layouts, mark up services for design clarity, and manage engagement through drawing distribution and feedback.

Coordinate commissioning, delivery, and installation of furniture/equipment, ensuring timely supplier performance and compliance with Trust standards.

Arrange staff training, operational policies, and temporary decants. Oversee IT and telecom installations, lock suiting, signage, and security/fire arrangements.

Manage relocation programs, disposal of surplus items, and packaging removal. Lead infection control input, deep cleaning coordination, and contribute to IT system development.

Conduct post-project evaluations for improvement.

Qualifications Essential

Educated to degree level Prince 2

Desirable

Formal project management qualification.

Experience Essential

Extensive relevant experience as a Planning/Commissioning Estates professional. A track record in planning/commissioning major capital construction contracts Extensive project management experience working at the highest level within a large organisation.

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Good interpersonal/communication skills A track record of developing and maintaining good working relationships at all levels in a large organisation Ability to relate to senior clinicians

Personal Qualities Essential

Must be a team player and have personal initiative Must have proven skill in negotiation and ability to persuade others Industrious and versatile, able to work on a diverse range of projects at one time

Other Essential

Valid full driving licence for the UK and access to a vehicle that can be used for work purposes
