Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for two dynamic and highly motivated part time Clinical Psychologists (2 x 0.6 wte) to join our Major Trauma Psychology Service.
This role provides an opportunity to work with patients with a range of serious and life changing injuries, their families and staff members within the Major Trauma pathway. This is a lifespan service and the post holders will be required to work with patients with a range of co morbid and pre-existing difficulties.
The post holder will have the opportunity to join a team where psychology is highly valued and well established. The role will predominantly be based at Hull Royal Infirmary, however the post holder will also be required to travel between hospital sites when needed to Castle Hill Hospital.
The successful candidates will benefit from well established close working relationships with a range of MDT members. The post holders will actively participate in the Major Trauma National Psychology Network, which provides an active forum for developing best practice in this clinical field. The post holders will be part of a thriving Department of Psychological Services at Hull University Teaching Hospitals and will receive professional support and supervision from a senior clinical psychologist within the department.
We would consider applications from newly qualified practitioners at band 7 to apply for this post with a view to a preceptorship from band 7 to band 8a.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will provide direct and indirect support to Major Trauma patients, attend the daily Major Trauma MDT meeting, offer consultation to the team and input into teaching and training for staff.
The post holders will actively contribute to service development and clinical governance and will promote psychologically informed care within the Major Trauma Centre.
They will participate in systematic clinical governance and offer clinical supervision to assistant, trainee and more junior psychologists, as well as other staff. The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, service development and research.
Due to the fast paced and acute nature of the Major Trauma Service the post holder will need to communicate effectively with others involved in patient care to ensure that safe, timely and appropriate psychological assessment and support is offered.
The post holder will assess and treat individuals that present with significant levels of distress and trauma and who may have recently experienced highly traumatic events and life threatening and changing injuries.
The post holder will also require skills in working with individuals presenting with cognitive difficulties and confusion.The post holder will need to develop a knowledge base regarding Major Trauma presentations and will be required to see patients with a range of significant injuries which may include complex orthopeadic injuries, amputations, TBI, spinal injuries, etc.

Person Specification
Education/ Qualifications Essential
Evidence of continuing professional development. Post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical / Practitioner Psychology as accredited by the BPS. Trained in the supervision of Psychology trainees Evidence of specific development of an evidence-based therapy such as CBT/ EMDR following training Evidence of knowledge and skills required for working with individuals with acquired brain injuries Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Additional supervisory training OR supervisor accreditation through BABCP Specific post- qualification training in CFT / ACT/ EMDR/ CBT Experience of working in acute hospital settings and with people with neurological conditions
Knowledge, Training & Experience Essential
Experience (through placements or employment) of working in a busy environment. Experience of working clinically with individuals with mental health difficulties. Experience of working within and supporting multidisciplinary teams in health care, social services or a related field. Skills in using complex methods of psychological and neuropsychological assessment and intervention e.g., Cognitive- Behavioural Therapy, Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, CFT, ACT. Evidence based practice relevant to the role. Have received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice
Desirable
