Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Research Nurse or Research Practitioner (qualified allied healthcare professional eg paramedic, physician associate, pharmacist) to join the team at Lawrence Hill Health Centre.
This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and deliver our growing research portfolio and increase participation in research within a diverse inner-city practice.
You will play a key role in supporting both academic and commercial studies, as well as fostering community engagement and building relationships to improve access to research for groups who are often underrepresented.
We are particularly interested in applicants who enjoy working with diverse communities and are motivated by improving equity and inclusion in healthcare research. You will be supported to develop your research delivery skills as we expand our research activity.
We are ideally looking for someone alongside the research time to work clinically one day a week on a Wednesday seeing triaged acute minor illness presentations but this can be negotiated depending on skills and experince.
Main duties of the job
You will support the delivery of a portfolio of research studies within the practice, including identifying and recruiting participants, obtaining informed consent, and conducting study visits (for example collecting and processing samples, completing questionnaires, reviewing results and recording adverse events).
You will work closely with the GP Research Lead and wider practice team to help embed research into everyday general practice, developing processes that ensure participant safety, data quality and compliance with research governance standards.
You will work with patients and local communities to improve awareness, trust and participation in research. This includes supporting outreach activities and helping to develop more accessible and inclusive approaches to recruitment and involvement.
While previous experience in research delivery is desirable, we welcome applicants who are motivated to develop in this area and can demonstrate transferable skills and experience relevant to the role. The successful candidate will be supported to build the skills required for the role through training and experience within the team.

Research delivery
The postholder will support the delivery of a portfolio of research studies within primary care. This will include identifying and recruiting suitable participants, obtaining informed consent, and conducting study visits in line with study protocols.
You will carry out study procedures such as sample collection, recording adverse events and monitoring results, ensuring all activities are completed accurately and in a timely manner. You will maintain high-quality study documentation and contribute to reliable data collection.
You will work closely with the GP Research Lead and wider practice team to embed research into routine clinical care and support the smooth day-to-day running of studies.
Study set-up, safety and governance
You will support the set-up and delivery of new research studies within the practice, working with external research teams and sponsors as required.
You will ensure that all research activity is conducted in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), study protocols and relevant research governance standards. This includes supporting participant safety, recognising and reporting adverse events, and maintaining appropriate documentation.
You will contribute to developing systems and processes that support safe, efficient and high-quality research delivery within the practice.
Community engagement and inclusion
You will support engagement with patients and local communities to improve awareness, trust and participation in research.
You will contribute to outreach activities and help develop more accessible and inclusive approaches to recruitment and involvement, particularly for groups who are often underrepresented in research.
You will work with patients from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may face barriers to participation, and support the use of interpreters and tailored communication approaches where needed.
You will contribute to building relationships with local community organisations and help ensure that research activity reflects the needs of the practice population.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
- Experience working within primary care. Unless the candidate has an extensive research background in secondary care - Experience managing workload and prioritising effectively - Ability to work autonomously within own scope of practice - An interest in health research and delivery
Desirable
- Experience delivering clinical research studies - Experience of research within primary care - Experience of processing and handling research samples e.g. centrifugation, sample preparation and storage, maintaining freezer temperatures - Ability to work in accordance with study protocols, standard operating procedures and regulatory frameworks - Experience working within a Deep End practice or with underserved/marginalised populations - Experience of community engagement or outreach work - Experience of using clinical (e.g. EMIS) and research (e.g. EDGE) systems
Qualifications Essential
- Registered healthcare professional with current professional registration (for example Nurse, Paramedic, Allied Health Professional or Physician Associate) - Phlebotomy competency - Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training - Additional training or qualifications relevant to research delivery (e.g. informed consent) or primary care (e.g. chronic disease management) - experience of minor illness management
