About this role

Eligibility The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. PhD in Social Medicine or other related relevant discipline and documented pedagogical skills. Assessment Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Pedagogical and scientific merits are the first ground for assessment of competence. Secondly, administrative skills will be assessed. In addition, ability to cooperate will be considered. Knowledge in epidemiology and experience of epidemiological research is meriting. Experience of teaching in Social Medicine is a merit as is formal pedagogical education for university teaching. Knowledge and experience of teaching within relevant areas in Social Medicine such as prevention, equal health, medical certificates, health economics, and Swedish legislation connected to health care are highly meriting. Medical school and experience of clinical work as a physician or social worker training and experience of work as a social worker is highly meriting. Documented skills to be able to work independently and good collaborative skills in a multi-professional environment is meriting and so is good language skills in Swedish and English. The successful applicant may also be asked to complete an educational training program within the first year of employment. Subject area description Social medicine is the part of medicine that focuses in particular on human health and disease in relation to the surrounding society. Research within this discipline includes social and psychosocial causes of disease. Focus is at population health at local, national and international levels. In particular, interest is at factors that contribute to inequity in health and to the development and evaluation of interventions that will reduce inequities. Of interest are also the role of healthcare and social insurance systems in population health. Job assignments The work includes planning, course administration, course responsibilities, and teaching, mainly at the medical school, but also in other programs at the department and the faculty as well as planning, administration, teaching and course responsibilities in commission courses. Contacts with students, development work and collaboration with relevant actors within and outside the academia are part of the work tasks. Furthermore, there is educational development work, faculty joint assignments and the third task (tredje uppgiften). We are positive to a combination of teaching and externally financed research. The employment will be placed at the Institute of Medicine, The Section for Epidemiology and Social Medicine (EPSO). EPSO is responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs within medicine, pharmacy and public health, but also gives different types of commission courses. Research areas include health-related lifestyle factors, life-course epidemiology, social inequalities, social structures and social factors in health and disease.
