The Logistics Manager Role As Logistics Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day warehouse and logistics operation at our Suttons Performance Packaging site in Chatteris, leading a small on-site team including Warehouse Operatives, a Yard Operative and HGV Drivers. This is a hands-on operational leadership role where you will lead from the front, remaining actively involved in warehouse and logistics activities whilst ensuring the smooth running of the department, high customer service standards and safe, efficient operations.
Managing warehouse, yard and transport activities, you will ensure stock is received, stored, controlled and dispatched efficiently whilst maintaining excellent levels of operational performance and customer service. You will oversee daily logistics planning, fleet compliance, warehouse operations and inventory management, ensuring customer deliveries are achieved safely, accurately and on time.
Working closely with production, purchasing and sales teams, you will play a key role in supporting wider business performance, operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives across site.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, manage and develop the warehouse and logistics team, including Warehouse Operatives, Yard personnel and HGV DriversLead by example within the warehouse and yard operation, supporting day-to-day activities where required in a practical and hands-on capacitySet clear objectives, manage performance and provide coaching, training and development support to the teamOversee all warehouse operations including goods receipt, storage, stock control, picking and dispatchPlan and manage daily delivery schedules to ensure excellent on-time-in-full customer service performanceManage the company vehicle fleet, ensuring full compliance with Operator Licence, VOSA and transport regulationsCoordinate vehicle servicing, maintenance and compliance activities in partnership with Central LogisticsEnsure all warehouse, yard and logistics operations comply with Health & Safety procedures and company standardsMaintain accurate inventory management processes including stock takes, stock accuracy and slow-moving stock controlDrive continuous improvement initiatives across warehouse and logistics processes to improve efficiency and reduce costsWork collaboratively with production, purchasing and sales teams to support customer delivery requirementsManage waste streams and coordinate collections in line with environmental and operational requirementsSupport the wider smooth running of the site including keyholder responsibilities What You Will Bring
Essential:
Minimum three years’ experience within a warehouse and logistics management rolePrevious experience managing warehouse operations alongside a small HGV fleet and driversStrong leadership and people management skills with the ability to coach, motivate and develop teamsComfortable operating within a smaller-site environment where a proactive, adaptable and hands-on approach is importantValid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence (essential)Experience managing transport compliance, vehicle checks and fleet recordsStrong understanding of warehouse Health & Safety principles and safe working practicesExperience using route planning or transport scheduling softwareStrong IT and administrative skills including Microsoft Office systemsGood organisational and problem-solving skills within a fast-paced operational environmentFull UK driving licenceGCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) Desirable:
