Knowledge, skills and experience PhD, preferably in manufacturing or equivalent Deep knowledge on new technologies and processes connected to future Volvo Group challenges Proven networking ability and ability to work in multicultural environment and strong networks within manufacturing engineering as well as within universities, technical institutes and external funding bodies Strong in communication and ability to coach and drive, facilitate change and having a holistic perspective Strong business oriented mind-set, with fact based and neutral approach Demonstrating a high and solid level in each of the Volvo Group Leadership competencies for the leading people level Experience of management within a production environment and strong manufacturing engineering knowledge and experience as well as good understanding of the industrial world As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required GTO Quality & Engineering is a global function that develops product and process solutions, leading to operational excellence. More specific, following areas are our key focus: Develop long-term plans and strategies for Quality & Environment to deliver on Volvo GTO commitments Lead the development of global strategies and plans for manufacturing processes Establish clear product requirements and be the interface to Global Trucks Technologies Develop and implement global way of working within Quality and Engineering Develop global expertise and resources in critical competence areas Act in close co-operation with GTO Plants to efficiently develop and deliver services and products with the right Quality, Delivery time and Cost. We are now looking for a Director for Research and Technology Development, in this role you will be reporting to the Vice President Manufacturing Technology and Competence Areas and be a part of the management team within GTO QE MT&CA. Purpose and content of the role Lead the technology planning process of the manufacturing technology area in coordination with all needed parties. Plan technology developments and research to deliver to future technology concepts and Volvo Group innovation to secure future competitiveness Manage project portfolio of the manufacturing technology area. Build the budget of the area and steer activities accordingly to secure project deliveries and transfer mature technologies, systems and methods to implementation projects Initiate and lead global cross functional networks Develop and drive governmental, university and institute cooperation in prioritized areas and represent GTO QE within Volvo Group and prioritized external forums in the domain of competence and responsibility Develop internal and external communication plans in coordination with the communication department to share best practice Secure Intellectual Property and freedom to operate in the area of responsibility Develop and maintain a continuous improvement plan for the Research & Technology Development area Lead a team of Research and Technology Development Engineers and specialists Responsibilities and main tasks Active member of the QE MTCA management team Actively provide input to, develop and maintain relevant long term manufacturing technology plans and roadmaps Actively seek for new trends, best practices and opportunities globally, aiming at affecting the long-term technology strategy of the Volvo Group Project control and coordination of the Technology Development project portfolio budget and status Maintain and develop KPI’s Secure Intellectual Property according to strategy Develop internal and external cooperation and to represent the function with external stakeholders as required Ensure that the function is properly resourced in all respects and has the capacity commitment and competence to achieve the planned objectives To continually inspire, develop and motivate people resources within the function Participate in meetings and also in Boards, Councils, Committees and Networks upon request of the Vice President MT&CA Initiate and follow up improvement projects contribute to GTO QE MT&CA journey to go beyond gold Application screening will start immediately; we look forward to receiving your application by Jan 8, 2019.
