Job SummaryThis position is located in the Small Business Administration, Birmingham Disaster Loan Service Center in Dallas, TX. The incumbent serves as a Loan Specialist and is responsible for servicing or liquidating a full range of disaster business and home loans.
QualificationsGS-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: Performing initial analysis of obligor's financial statements and earning potential of a variety of business enterprises to make initial recommendations for commercial/business loan applications or servicing/liquidation actions; and Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of collateral, business types, loan programs and collection experiences. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume. OR GS-09 Master's degree (or equivalent graduate degree such as LL.B. or J.D. as specified in qualification standards or individual occupational requirements) directly related to the position including finance, business administration, economics. Education must be in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR A combination of education and experience. For example, 1 full year (18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours) of graduate-level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position. TIME IN GRADE: If you are a current career or career-conditional federal employee applying for promotion under Merit Promotion you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks in positions at the next level lower than the position being filled. Major DutiesAs a Loan Specialist at theGS-1165-9, some of your typical work assignments may include: Reviews a variety of consumer and commercial loan documents, most of which include consideration and evaluation of complicating factors; inventories collateral; obtains appraisals and liquidating value of inventoried property. Analyzes financial statements of obligors and endeavors to determine their prospects for continued payment on consumer and commercial loans in connection with modification of payments or other loan terms; investigates and determines financial responsibility of obligors who may be liable for the payment of indebtedness for use in recommending collection procedures, or legal actions to enforce payment. Provides necessary information, as needed, to legal staff in preparing various releases and other documents to be executed on behalf of SBA; evaluates requests for releases of lien in order to obtain the greatest possible recovery. Prepares written credit recommendations and obtains supervisory approval on a variety of collection as well as real estate transactions.
