Job summary
Market Square Surgery is seeking a motivated and experienced Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse with a strong interest in chronic disease management and primary care.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across a range of clinical services.
Main duties of the job
Deliver clinical nursing care including ear syringing, compression bandaging, wound care, and suture/staple removalUndertake Doppler assessments, ECGs, and phlebotomyProvide chronic disease management (asthma, COPD/spirometry, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, CHD prevention)Deliver health promotion, screening, cervical smears, and patient educationRun travel health clinics (vaccinations and malaria advice)Administer immunisations, vaccinations, and injectable medicationsAssess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, including minor injuries and post-operative supportProvide psychological support and respond to emergency situationsWork collaboratively with GPs and multidisciplinary teams within a multi-agency frameworkParticipate in clinical audits, quality improvement, and evidence-based practiceSupport infection prevention and control proceduresPromote patient wellbeing through personalised care plans and health advice

Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience working in primary care, general practice, or a similar clinical setting Proven experience in managing long-term conditions (e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes) Experience in delivering immunisations and vaccinations Experience in wound care, including dressings and compression bandaging Experience performing cytology (cervical smears), ECGs, Doppler assessments, and phlebotomy Experience in patient assessment, care planning, and health promotion
Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse (NMC) Experience working in primary care or a similar clinical setting Competence in chronic disease management (asthma, COPD, diabetes) Skilled in cytology (cervical smears), immunisations, and vaccinations Experience in wound care, including compression bandaging and dressings Competent in ECGs, Doppler assessments, and phlebotomy Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Good organisational skills and ability to manage workload effectively
Desirable
ARTP qualification (or willingness to undertake) Experience in travel health and vaccinations Knowledge of GP clinical systems Independent prescribing qualification (advantageous) Experience participating in clinical audits and quality improvement
