The department of pharmacology is part of the institute of neuroscience and physiology. Approximately 40 individuals work at the department, seven of them holding full-time teaching positions. The department conducts teaching at a basic and advanced level within most educational programs at the Sahlgrenska academy. Teaching can be given in either Swedish or English. The research at the department encompasses several areas of research, all of which are in the close vicinity of pharmacology. For more information on the teaching and research carried out at the department please visit https://neurophys.gu.se/sektioner/farmakologi Subject area Pharmacology Subject area description The subject of pharmacology encompasses all knowledge of medically used drugs. This includes general and specific pharmacology, the usage of drugs in all medical fields, pharmacodynamic effects of drugs, pharmacotherapy, mechanisms of action of drugs and more. Job assignments The work tasks include to actively conduct research in the field of pharmacology or a field in the close vicinity. It is expected of the candidate to be able to obtain external grants. The candidate of the position is expected to teach at a basic and advanced level at all educational programs within the Sahlgrenska academy in which pharmacology is taught. Further, it is also expected of the candidate to be able to teach PhD courses. Additionally, the employment includes to teach PhD students by acting as a supervisor and to take part in administrative tasks that are mutually distributed within the department, such as acting as a course leader. Also to participate in administrative tasks that are mutually distributed within the institute and faculty. The candidate is expected to accept tasks that include leadership. These tasks can be either at the department, institute or faculty level. Eligibility The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. PhD in relevant subject area, with demonstrated teaching skills. Assessment Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. For evaluation, teaching and research proficiency is considered first, both to the same extent. Second, administrative proficiency is considered. Third, assignments that are commissions of trust and/or which require leadership skills and/or shown ability to cooperate are considered.
