This is an exciting opportunity to join the Research Department of Practice and Policy, conducting world leading research in medication safety.

About the role

The main purpose of this role is to conduct research for an NIHR-funded realist evaluation of the second-person checking of medication dispensing, preparation and administration in NHS hospitals (“The CHECKMED realist evaluation study”).

This will include collecting data using online surveys, observations of clinical practice and interviews with patients, carers and healthcare professionals in NHS hospitals in England, and analysis using a realist approach. You will be working as part of an expert team, including with patient/public partners.

Please note that an acceptable DBS check is required to carry out this role.

This is an open-ended contract with funding available for 25 months in the first instance, and appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.

Starting salary will be dependent on experience, and the salary range for this role will be from £45,103 to £48,679 per annum.

We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible and this role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 20% on site.

About you

You must have a PhD in a relevant subject area, and proven knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques in health services research. Experience with data collection in the healthcare context is also essential. Knowledge of realist evaluation and medication / patient safety would be an advantage.
