QualificationsAll qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: directing and coordinating work through subordinate team leaders while supervising environmental public health programs and providing scientific guidance at national and international levels; promoting, developing, and implementing new training initiatives to strengthen environmental public health workforce capacity and program effectiveness; and building and maintaining collaborative relationships with national and international public health and medical organizations, government agencies, and state and local health departments. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Major DutiesAs a Supervisory Health Scientist you will: Serve as the Office Director for the Office of Innovation and Analytics (OIA) and provide scientific and programmatic leadership and overall direction of the Office. Responsible for planning, managing, and evaluating programs with significant resources (e.g., one at a multimillion-dollar level of annual resources). Evaluate subordinate supervisors or leaders and serve as the reviewing official on evaluations of nonsupervisory employees rated by subordinate supervisors. Develop and maintain relationships among a variety of environmental public health organizations, other government agencies, academic institutions, and state and local health departments. Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary research initiatives, driving the development of advanced analytical tools, systems, and toxicological programs that support environmental medicine and emergency preparedness. Reduce exposure risks through the development of Minimal Risk Levels (MRLs) and integrate geospatial science to enhance data-driven public health strategies and decision-making. Provide critical leadership to advance data analytics, spatial analysis and surveillance to evaluate environmental health hazards. Develop specific projects and activities from broad program goals through the application of sound managerial and leadership concepts and practices, with a view toward enhancing the national impact of the Agency's activities.RequirementsDue to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ: US Citizenship required.
