The Accelerator Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a technician in the Superconducting RF Section. Description of Accelerator Division The Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) Section in the Accelerator Division is responsible for all the SRF accelerator module of the ESS facility. The SRF section operates with other ESS units and the Project in kind partners to develop, receive, test, install, commission and bring into operation the SRF accelerator components. Description of main responsibilities You will assist in planning, supporting, documenting and performing work on the Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) accelerating modules: from the incoming reception and testing in the ESS Test Stand to the installation and technical commissioning in the accelerator tunnel; with main focus in the activities with RF components. In particular you will: • install, commission, calibrate, operate, document and maintain electronic, electromechanical and radiofrequency equipment used in the SRF laboratory and at the module Test Stand; • participate to Test Stand shift work (occasionally including nights and weekends) for the module measurement program and follow proper operation of the SRF systems at the Test Stand and in the accelerator. Report unusual observations and/or occurrences to supervisor; • use and develop automated tools to collect, record, and analyse data for incoming acceptance, operation and maintenance of SRF modules and other related systems and their components; • plan, support / perform scheduled maintenance tasks on the SRF systems; • support / perform emergency maintenance to restore proper operation of the SRF systems after downtime; We seek a candidate eager to: • work in compliance with environmental, safety, health and quality program requirements • maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of ESS values and ethics Qualifications, Skills and Experience You have a technical degree in electronics, electromechanics or mechatronics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You have two years or more of “hands-on” experience with scientific/technological equipment in an R&D laboratory (or similar environment), having participated either in their design, construction, assembly, calibration, testing or operation phases. You have a basic working knowledge of electronic circuits, and/or mechanical/electromechanical systems and a proper mindset to perform careful assembly operations on delicate scientific instrumentation. You can read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schemes, and are familiar with the use of test and measurement equipment for fault analysis and troubleshooting. In addition, experience in the following is an advantage: • design, construction, assembly, repair, calibration, testing and operation of accelerator components; • familiarity with the design concept of superconducting accelerator components; • familiarity with RF instrumentation (e.g. signal generators, power meters, vector network analyzers) to perform calibration and characterization measurements; • use of mechanical and/or electrical CAD tools; You have a good knowledge of spoken and written English, effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. To be successful and perform well in this position you must be a quick learner, take initiative and confidently work under own direction. You must be able to plan activities and projects well in advance, prioritize your tasks and have a problem-solving attitude.
