About this role
Additive Manufacturing (AM) is described as one of the most important and disruptive technologies to have emerged in recent years. With this comes an increasing demand for metal powder – a demand that is expected to continue growing. Advanced competences within material science is the very foundation of everything Sandvik do and, being a world leader in powder technology, we are now planning a major investment to strengthen our position on the powder market even further. This is where you come in! Our Powder R&D department is responsible for creating a foundation for continuous improvements within nickel-based alloys and titanium powder, and for optimizing our processes within powder manufacturing in alignment with our customers’ demands and challenges. We are now looking for a senior R&D Engineer with impressive skills within the powder metallurgy area to join our team, in a position where you make a true impact on our operations by working both hands-on and on a strategic level. This position is located in Sandviken, with global travel as a natural part of the assignment. Your mission – creating powerful synergies by bringing your expertise to the table In this role, you have a dual mission; you are responsible for setting a structure for gathering and securing knowledge within material development of new alloys and for developing our processes related to powder manufacturing. This takes engagement and flexibility – from a more strategic, holistic standpoint to getting deep into the smallest details. You add value with your extensive knowledge in the area by taking an active part in process development at our production sites in Sandviken and Wales, and by participating in lab testing and customer visits to conduct field testing of our offerings. In close collaboration with the rest of your team, you review existing and generate new processes and testing methods. This includes supporting our production and the other teams within the division – always aiming at developing new materials and taking our operations to the next level. You continually develop your own knowledge, as you capture and develop new ideas and apply them in a way that adds value to the business. Your character – a proactive doer with the ability to turn complex theories into practice We are looking for someone with several years’ hands-on experience from a similar position, with vast knowledge of the steel industry, powder metallurgy processes and quality assurance - and experience from working in close collaboration with production. You have a degree in Engineering, preferably within Powder Metallurgy, Material Science or similar field, and experience from titanium powders is considered a plus. As we act both locally and in an international setting, you have exceptional skills in both English and Swedish, written and verbal. We are fascinated by your social skills and your ability to thrive on constantly evolving your skills and mindset; challenging both yourself and the organization. You are genuinely interested in the area and keeping track of what’s going on in the field comes natural to you – allowing you to always stay ahead of the game. Being a true team player, you act as a role model by sharing knowledge and best practices to develop both the team and the business in the right direction. As you interact with many different stakeholders in this position, both internally and externally, you understand the importance of clear communication and building trustworthy and long-lasting relationship. Welcome to our team! Additive Manufacturing is described as one of the most important and disruptive technologies to have emerged in recent years. It makes components lighter, stronger and more flexible than ever before – enabling previously impossible designs. It reinvents logistics and minimizes waste, reducing the need for both transports and warehousing. True environmental advantages. With more than 150 years in the metal industry, few understand the secrets of additive manufacturing like Sandvik. We master every step of the additive manufacturing value chain - and are therefore in a unique position to lead the additive transformation. Our current expansion follows our recent investment in an in-house Additive Manufacturing Center, where we have built up our AM competence and invested in state-of-the-art AM process technologies.
