About this role

Main purpose of the job

Carry out the duties of this post in line with the current conditions of employment in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions as they relate to senior leaders including the conditions of employment for practitioners on the leadership pay scale and the school’s own policies. Support, develop and lead the staff to ensure high quality teaching and effective use of resources which impact positively on the learning and achievement of all pupils across the Trust with English. Through learning walks; book looks; team-teaching sessions and collating both staff and pupil voice. Working with the English Subject Leaders, Executive Director of English and Director of School Improvement to lead English across the Trust. Liaise with and establish external partnerships as appropriate to ensure high quality provision for pupils across the Trust schools with English. Be responsible for the development and implementation of an English strategy across the Trust to ensure outcomes remain high in English and the quality of provision remains strong. Provide regular progress reports and updates for the Leadership and Management team and Directors on English standards. Including supporting schools with external evaluations, for example English Hub audits. Carry out the professional duties of a teacher as required. Take responsibility for child protection issues as appropriate and for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the Trust. To carry out English interventions and booster work as identified and plan accordingly to meet the needs of all learners. Work effectively and efficiently with the Executive Director. Including regular communication.

Duties and responsibilities

Shaping the future

· In partnership with Director of School Improvement; Executive Director of English; leaders across the schools and Directors, establish and implement an ambitious vision and ethos for the future of the Trust.

Play a leading role in the school improvement and school self-evaluation planning process linked to EnglishSupport English Leaders to devise, implement and monitor English action plans and other policy developments linked to English.Lead by example to motivate and work with others.In partnership with the English leads, lead by example when implementing and managing change initiatives.Promote a culture of inclusion within the Trust community where all views are valued and taken into account.

Strategic Direction of English Provision

Work alongside, and provide support/direction to English leaders across the Trust to:

Communicate and liaise effectively and regularly with the Executive Director of

English regarding support and direction across the Trust.

Ensure effective systems of communication, including feedback about pupil’s learning to inform future planning.Monitor the quality of English support by establishing effective systems to identify and meet the needs of all pupils, whilst ensuring the systems and interventions are co-ordinated, evaluated and regularly reviewed for impact.Ensure the objectives of the English policy are reflected in the school improvement planning.Monitor the effectiveness and accurate assessment of all pupils in English.Liaise with, co-ordinate and evaluate the contribution of external agencies.Have an up-to-date knowledge of national and local initiatives which may impact upon policy and practice. Including finger-on-the-pulse knowledge of curriculum review and changes to the NC.

Leading teaching and learning

Be an excellent role model, exemplifying a high standard of teaching and promoting high expectations for all members of the school community.Lead the development and delivery of training and support for staff in English.Assist in the development and review of all aspects of the curriculum including planning; recording and reporting; assessment for learning and the development of a creative and appropriate curriculum for all pupils in English.Work in partnership with the Director of School Improvement; the Executive Director and SLT members across the Trust in managing the schools through strategic planning and the formulation of policy and delivery of strategy, ensuring management decisions are implemented.With the SLT members across the Trust (and guidance from the Executive Director), lead the processes involved in monitoring, evaluating and challenging the quality of teaching and learning taking place throughout the school, including lesson observations to ensure consistency and quality.Ensure the systematic teaching of basic skills and recording of impact is consistently high across the school in English.Contribute to robust evaluation of school performance, progress data and actions to secure improvements comparable to appropriate national standards in English.Ensure through leading by example the active involvement of pupils and staff in their own learning.Take responsibility and accountability for English, including statistical analysis of pupil groups, progress data and target setting, working alongside SLT; English leads across the Trust and the Executive Director.

Developing self and others

Support the development of collaborative approaches to learning within the school and beyond. Organise and support the induction of staff new to the school and those being trained within the school linked to English. Be an excellent role model for both staff and pupils in terms of being reflective and demonstrating a desire to improve and learn.

Work with the Director of School Improvement and Executive Director to deliver an appropriate programme of professional development for all staff including quality coaching and mentoring, in line with the school improvement plan and performance management linked to English. Provide up to date training, coaching and associated activities linked to national and local agendas in English. Ensure own CPD is up to date – willingness to further develop.

Managing the organisation

Support Senior leaders and English Subject Leaders to review English provision across the Trust to ensure statutory requirements are being met and improved on where appropriate. Ensure the effective dissemination of information, the maintenance of and ongoing improvements to agreed systems for internal communication. Be a proactive and effective member of the central Trust team.

To undertake any professional duties, reasonably delegated by the Director of School Improvement.

Securing accountability

Lead and support the staff and school committees in fulfilling their responsibilities with regard to the school’s performance and standards in English. Support the Director of School improvement; Executive Director and school leaders in reporting the schools’ performance to its community and partners. Promote and protect the health and safety welfare of pupils and staff. Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the Trust.

Strengthening community

Work with the Director of School Improvement; Executive Director and school leaders in developing the policies and practice, which promote inclusion, equality and the extended services that the school offers in mathematics. Develop and maintain contact with all specialist support services. Promote the positive involvement of parents/carers in school life linked to English opportunities. Organise and conduct meetings where appropriate with parents and carers to ensure positive outcomes for all parties linked to English. Strengthen partnership and community working linked to English. Promote positive relationships and work with colleagues in other schools and external agencies.
