About this role

JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Firmware Engineer will develop, sustain, and provide technical ownership of embedded firmware solutions for Single Phase UPS products. The role focuses on real-time DSP/MCU firmware for power conversion systems, including digital control, signal acquisition and processing, protection algorithms, hardware/firmware integration, system synchronization, and multi-processor communication.

The engineer will work closely with global engineering teams supporting new product development and sustaining activities and will apply in-depth knowledge of Single Phase UPS architectures, firmware platforms, product-specific control strategies, interfaces, and engineering processes. The position also provides technical guidance to firmware engineers and supports product integration, laboratory validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis throughout the product lifecycle.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware for Single Phase UPS products using DSP and MCU-based platforms.
  • Develop high-quality C/C++ firmware for bare-metal and real-time operating system environments.
  • Design and implement timing-critical power electronics functionality including PWM generation, synchronized ADC acquisition, digital control loops, protection algorithms, and real-time signal processing.
  • Develop and maintain firmware associated with AC/DC and DC/AC power conversion, inverter control, PFC, battery operation, and UPS protection functions.
  • Develop and support algorithms for UPS synchronization, paralleling, active load sharing, and redundant power systems.
  • Develop and maintain firmware for multi-processor and multi-controller embedded architectures.
  • Design and maintain reusable firmware architectures, interfaces, drivers, and Hardware Abstraction Layers across embedded platforms.
  • Integrate firmware with power electronics hardware, communication interfaces, sensors, programmable logic, and other embedded subsystems.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, firmware integration, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for new and existing products.
  • Support firmware development throughout the product lifecycle, including new product development, sustaining engineering, qualification, and production support.
  • Maintain and improve firmware configuration management, build, verification, and release processes.
  • Support automated firmware build and verification activities using Git-based development workflows and CI/CD tools.
  • Support implementation of applicable embedded cybersecurity and secure development requirements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation related to firmware architecture, interfaces, design decisions, and product-specific implementations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional global engineering teams and provide technical guidance, design reviews, troubleshooting support, and mentorship to firmware engineers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS or above in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded firmware, power electronics, digital control, or related product development.
  • Strong experience developing or sustaining embedded firmware for UPS, inverter, power conversion, motor control, or similar real-time power electronics products.
  • Strong C/C++ development skills for bare-metal and real-time embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience with DSP and MCU-based embedded control platforms, preferably TI C2000 or similar real-time processors.
  • Strong understanding of real-time embedded systems, including interrupts, task scheduling, synchronization, deterministic data acquisition, and inter-processor communication.
  • Strong knowledge of digital control, digital signal processing, PWM generation, ADC acquisition, feedback control, and protection algorithms.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC and DC/AC power electronics, inverter systems, PFC, batteries, protection functions, and power conversion architectures.
  • Experience with UPS paralleling, synchronization, load sharing, redundant systems, or comparable multi-converter control architectures.
  • Experience working with multi-controller or multi-processor embedded architectures.
  • Experience with hardware/firmware integration, embedded system bring-up, debugging, laboratory validation, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience with Git-based source control and structured firmware development workflows.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional and globally distributed engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Single Phase UPS products, architectures, control strategies, or related power conversion systems.
  • Experience with FreeRTOS, CMSIS-RTOS, or similar real-time operating systems.
  • Experience with FPGA/CPLD integration and programmable logic used in embedded power electronics systems; familiarity with Intel/Altera devices and Quartus Prime is a plus.
  • Experience with embedded firmware CI/CD, automated builds, artifact generation, and release automation, preferably using GitLab CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with embedded cybersecurity practices, SBOM generation, secure software development, or SSDF-aligned processes.
  • Experience with Python and/or MATLAB for engineering automation, data analysis, algorithm development, or validation.
  • Experience with automated testing, HIL environments, or high-power hardware/firmware validation.
