Sanitation Worker @ Aerotek

Job Title: Sanitation WorkerJob DescriptionThis role supports a food and beverage production facility that manufactures hummus and salsa in a refrigerated environment. The sanitation worker ensures that all processing rooms and equipment remain clean, sanitized, and safe, primarily during third shift hours. This position plays a critical part in maintaining hygiene standards, supporting smooth production, and upholding food safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Clean processing rooms thoroughly, including walls, doors, ceilings, carts, tables, and drains.
• Remove any packaging materials or food items left in the production area to maintain a clean and safe workspace.
• Pre-rinse equipment and items with water using a hose to remove food residue prior to washing.
• Apply soap using a mobile foaming unit to all designated items and surfaces.
• Scrub items using the appropriate color-coded brushes to meet sanitation standards.
• Rinse away all soap residue using a water hose, ensuring no cleaning chemicals remain.
• Inspect items and areas for cleanliness and re-clean as necessary to meet quality expectations.
• Sanitize equipment and surfaces using a central sanitizer hose to ensure proper disinfection.
• Perform general janitorial and environmental services duties such as mopping floors and maintaining clean common areas.
• Support machine and equipment sanitation, contributing to safe operation of mechanical and filling equipment.
• Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures required in a food and beverage environment.
• Work scheduled third shift hours and adjust to production needs, including mandatory weekend work when required.

Essential Skills

• Experience in a janitorial or housekeeping role.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties.
• Ability to stand on feet for an entire 8-hour shift.
• Experience performing inspection tasks to verify cleanliness and sanitation.
• Ability to perform mopping and general janitorial duties in a production environment.
• Capability to carry out environmental services, including cleaning floors, drains, and surfaces.
• Basic familiarity with sanitation processes such as pre-rinsing, soaping, scrubbing, rinsing, and sanitizing.
• Reliability in attendance and the ability to maintain consistent transportation to and from work.
• Comfort working in a cold, refrigerated food production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in food and beverage production environments is a plus.
• Experience in industrial or automotive environments is beneficial.
• Familiarity with industrial equipment such as filling machines and mixers is an asset.
• Exposure to equipment that runs on pneumatics and hydraulics, including valves and hoses, is advantageous.
• Willingness to learn and follow strict food safety and sanitation protocols.
• Ability to work across multiple shifts if needed, including first, second, or third shift schedules.

Work EnvironmentThis position is based in a food and beverage production facility that manufactures hummus and salsa, where many areas are kept cold due to refrigerated storage and processing requirements. Team members work around industrial equipment, including filling machines and mixers, and may encounter systems that use pneumatics, hydraulics, valves, and hoses. The role involves working scheduled shifts, including 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., or 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with a primary need on third shift.

The standard workweek runs Monday through Friday, with mandatory Saturdays and potential Sunday work depending on production demands. Employees must be comfortable fully suiting up in appropriate personal protective equipment, including lab coats, hair nets, beard nets, and other required PPE, while working in the food areas. The environment combines physical work, cold temperatures, and strict cleanliness standards to support safe and efficient food production.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, MI.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.50 - $16.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
