Job Title: Machine OperatorJob DescriptionThis role is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically inclined professional to operate and support production machinery in a roofing materials manufacturing facility. You will primarily work with extruders and presses, learning the specific operation of each machine and gaining the opportunity to cross-train across the plant. Responsibilities
- Operate production machinery such as extruders and presses in a manufacturing environment, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Learn and apply the specific operating requirements for each assigned machine, including start-up, shut-down, and changeover processes.
- Monitor machine performance during operation, making appropriate adjustments (such as speed changes) to maintain product quality and production efficiency.
- Assist in troubleshooting basic mechanical and operational issues with machines, escalating more complex problems to maintenance or supervision as needed.
- Perform general production tasks, including material handling, basic inspection, and quality checks to ensure products meet specifications.
- Report scrap and production variances accurately and in a timely manner, helping to identify and reduce waste.
- Conduct routine visual inspections of products and equipment to identify defects, irregularities, or potential safety concerns.
- Follow all quality control procedures and contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Use basic math skills to perform measurements, conversions (such as feet to inches), and other calculations required in daily production activities.
- Collaborate with leads, supervisors, and team members to meet production goals and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in cross-training opportunities to learn additional machines and processes throughout the plant, increasing flexibility and advancement potential.
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment when trained and authorized, ensuring safe and efficient movement of materials.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety rules, and manufacturing standards while working in a fast-paced, cyclical production environment.
Essential Skills
- 35 years of machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment preferred, or a solid and reliable work history in production settings.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand how machines function and respond to adjustments.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, production processes, and quality standards.
- General machine operation skills, including start-up, monitoring, adjustment, and shut-down of production equipment.
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on machinery, identifying simple issues and making minor adjustments as appropriate.

- Comfort working around loud machinery, fumes, odors, and dust in a high-volume production facility.
- Reliability, strong work ethic, and the ability to work assigned shifts, including weekends and overnight hours as needed.
- Capability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety and quality procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Forklift experience (sit-down) is a plus and may be used for material handling and support tasks.
- Experience using measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers is a plus, though not required.
- Completion of technical school or vocational training related to manufacturing, mechanics, or industrial technology is considered an asset.
- Experience in leadership, lead, or supervisory roles in a production environment is beneficial.
- Military experience may be considered in lieu of direct manufacturing or machine operation experience.
- Prior exposure to inspection and quality control processes in a production setting is helpful.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality and safety.
Why Work Here? You join a stable manufacturing operation that offers clear opportunities to grow your skills and advance by cross-training on multiple machines and processes throughout the plant.
