Contract type: Fixed Term for 12 months from 01 October 2026

Hours: 1.0 FTE / 37.5 hours

About the role

The Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics of the University of Oxford is seeking a fixed-term, 12-month Departmental Lecturer to assume teaching and examining responsibilities in the areas of Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics, to cover the teaching that is usually provided by three of the Faculty’s permanent postholders who have sabbatical leave or are covering major Faculty administrative roles. The post is tenable from 1 October 2026 and is non-renewable.

Although the areas in which teaching is required include all three of Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics, the successful candidate need not have primary research expertise in all. If their research credentials lie more squarely in one of these subareas, they should have a demonstrated ability to successfully teach the other subareas at the undergraduate level.

The duties and skills required are described in further detail in the job description.
