About this role
Application deadline: Nov 10, 2026 AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
The AWS Data Center Systems team seeks a Manager of Data Center Systems software to manage a software development team building the next generation User Interface for datacenter infrastructure controls monitoring and alarming systems. This is an opportunity to build global cloud monitoring applications using device telemetry from the industrial control systems. In particular, you will own the the UI/UX, presenting a consolidated, consistent view of AWS Data Centers’ status giving our users a high degree of Situational Awareness for AWS Data Centers around the world.
These systems directly contribute to the high availability of AWS data centers, and Amazon’s sustainability goals. As a Manager in Data Center Systems Software, you will ensure that data center systems are designed with high reliability, security, availability, scalability, and low latency from the outset. You will establish development standards, best practices, and drive operational excellence throughout your team. You will hire and develop the best engineers to accomplish the organization's goals and mission.
The relationships you build with peers will help ensure the group is using the right AWS services and methodologies for the company’s scale, while recognizing the unique requirements of the data center systems problem space.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead, hire, develop, and retain a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering an inclusive and high-ownership culture.
- Own end-to-end delivery of services and features — from planning and design through launch and operation.
- Set and communicate technical direction; ensure sound architecture, operational excellence, and appropriate trade-offs between speed and long-term health.
- Drive operational excellence for mission-critical systems, including on-call health, availability, latency, and security.
- Partner with product management and operations customers to translate ambiguous goals into clear, measurable roadmaps.
- Collaborate across teams to align on shared platforms, interfaces, and dependencies.
- Manage planning and execution, proactively identifying and removing risks and blockers.
- Coach engineers on design, code quality, and career growth; calibrate performance and support promotions.
A day in the life
No two days are identical, but a typical one blends technical leadership, delivery, and people management. You unblock your team at stand-up, review designs and push on the right trade-offs, and watch on-call health and metrics on systems where availability is non-negotiable. You align with product and partner teams on interfaces and roadmap, coach engineers in 1:1s, give feedback on reviews, and help with hiring. The best people move fluidly between the strategic (where should this platform be in a year?) and the specific (why did this deployment regress p99?), and make the teams around them better.
