Job description

Job responsibilities

Locala Health and Wellbeing is looking for a motivated, compassionate and forward-thinking Sexual Health Outreach Nurse to join our established and developing integrated sexual health service in Wigan and Leigh.

We are recruiting at Band 6 for an appropriately qualified Registered Nurse. We would also welcome applications from Registered Nurses who have the relevant experience and potential but do not yet hold all the required specialist sexual health qualifications. For the right candidate, a Band 5 training opportunity may be available, providing the opportunity to develop the specialist knowledge and skills required for the Band 6 role.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality, person-centred sexual health care across our clinical hub and a variety of community outreach settings. You will play an important role in improving access to sexual health services, particularly for people and communities who may be at greater risk of poor sexual health outcomes or face additional barriers when accessing traditional healthcare services.

Working alongside team leaders and service managers, you will help plan, coordinate and deliver outreach clinics in a range of community venues. This will include working with diverse populations and individuals who may have complex health, social or personal circumstances, including:

  • Children and young people who are looked after.
  • People affected by substance misuse or sexual exploitation.
  • People involved in the sex industry.
  • Men who have sex with men (MSM).
  • Individuals with complex health and social care needs.

At the heart of this role is providing a welcoming, confidential and non-judgemental service where everyone feels respected, listened to and supported to make informed decisions about their sexual health and wellbeing.

About you

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, compassionate and committed to delivering inclusive healthcare. You will be able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating good clinical judgement, communication and organisational skills.

  • A commitment to providing high-quality, person-centred care.
  • An understanding of the barriers that can prevent people from accessing sexual health services.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances.
  • A proactive approach to improving services and reducing health inequalities.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
  • A willingness to develop your knowledge, skills and professional practice.

We recognise that people develop their careers in different ways. If you are a Registered Nurse who is passionate about sexual health but have not yet completed the relevant specialist qualifications, we would encourage you to consider the Band 5 training opportunity, subject to meeting the essential requirements.

Your team and development

You will join a supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team, including doctors, advanced nurse practitioners, nurses, prevention workers, engagement workers and partnership managers. We value collaboration, professional development and the contribution every colleague makes to delivering excellent care.

This role provides an opportunity to broaden your clinical experience, develop specialist sexual health knowledge and contribute to the continued development of innovative community-based services. Whether joining us with established specialist experience or developing towards this through the Band 5 training pathway, you will be supported to grow and make a difference.

Locala Health and Wellbeing is an independent, not-for-profit community healthcare provider delivering NHS services to more than 400,000 people. We believe excellent healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our colleagues play an important part in making this happen.

Our values guide the way we work:

  • Be Caring - treating people with compassion, dignity and respect.
  • Be Inspirational - encouraging new ideas, learning and positive change.
  • Be Part of It - working together and valuing everyone's contribution.
