Job summary

The Children in Care Staff Nurse role involves providing high-quality, safe, and child focussed care.

The Nurse will manage a caseload and ensure compliance with statutory health assessments, safeguarding practices and promoting the health and wellbeing of the children including identifying health needs and making appropriate referrals or providing packages of care to meet their identified needs.

Main duties of the job

Assessing and addressing the needs of Children in Care including Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children/ young people, children with complex health needs and Care Leavers.Promote and sustain effective working relationships between staff and partner agencies in developing, promoting and addressing the health needs of Children in Care.Working within multi-agency processes to identify potential risk of harm to children in our care.Assist the Lead Nurse to support staff within the trust and other agencies in relation to the health needs of Children in Care and Young People.To undertake Review Health Assessments and therapeutic interventions with children in care, and co-ordinate health recommendations.Work directly with Children in Care, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children/ young people and Care Leavers who cannot/do not engage with mainstream services to provide advice and support on issues relating to health and wellbeing.Attend appropriate strategy meetings and Team around the Child and planning meetings to provide a health perspective and assessment of risk to the child or young person .Support the Lead Nurse in the gathering of accurate data on the health and wellbeing of children in careKeep self-updated regarding all issues concerning safeguarding, including legal, research and government policy in order to ensure that advice given to professionals follows current best practice. Adhere to NMC Code of Professional conduct.

Job description Job responsibilities

Children’s Nursing qualification RSCN / RN (child) 1st level or equivalent. Public health knowledge and experience Evidence of continued professional development. Ability to demonstrate experience of working within the community Ability to demonstrate relevant experience of working with children in care Multi-professional working Teaching/ training Working autonomously Working on a one to one basis with children and young people to identify and address their health needs.
